@OntarioSeptic But “pumps don’t fail..” It is wild what you see out there. 🤯 Design with the future in mind. This is the only way to plumb a pump tank in our opinion.

Rant: Installation with approaching 0% understanding of risk for future service Technicans is brutal idiocy and can be designed out if cheap isn't always the first priority. Yes I am an angry motivation type person, has gotten me this far, so I am going to stay angry that we do stupid things for no good reason.

Because access to the effluent filter is required So are the risers to grade Therefore safety screens must be installed under the lids as a redundancy for safety No legal grandfathered exceptions are morally viable

Husqvarna sent me a stack of chainsaws to give away because a bear stole mine & Internet went wild. I’m adding a 4 day/3 nt stay to my Smoky Mtn cabin. (Side by side tours, meet Jimmy & me, see old moonshine stills, crazy views). To enter (100% free, no purchase necessary): 1) Follow @BowTiedBroke 2) Comment on THIS post with literally anything (tag friends = extra luck with the dartboard later 👀) Contest runs exactly 24 hours —-> closes tomorrow at 10:00 AM EST At close, @grok will instantly pick 20 random commenters with accounts older than 3 months. Then, I put those 20 names on a dartboard, film one throw, and THAT person wins everything. No bots, no BS, fully transparent. Grok posts the 20 here, the dart decides destiny 🎯 Sorry international followers (not that I have that many) U.S. followers only for this one. Cabin is in Tennessee, chainsaws are heavy, and bears don’t do passports. Let’s go! Drop a reply and let’s see who the Chainsaw stealing bear chooses.

"Pre-plumbed" pump chambers purchased from the precaster with no regard from final grade are something that needs to be addressed. From this view - walk me through how to change out the pump or floats during a high level event? This site also didn't have any consideration for pump sizing - just the cheapest pump available Designed & built for compliance minimums and profit

I use @grok to be critical of my ideas & to generate improvements on them for me. The analysis of concepts is helping me focus on how to improve the testing of theory, with practical calculations to support hypothesis testing. Eg. Suitable & sustainable Canadian produced filter media to replace peat moss in trickling filters already installed They need media replacement every 8 years. I don't think foreign production & transportation of coco husks is the future here.

A misconception in the residential septic market is that certified or approved systems all meet the same performance metrics reliably. It is assumed that they do when they are permitted, but it's the ongoing verification that is needed. Some are challenged to meet minimum performance requirements at all in the field with real people sewage flows (RPSF) & third party effluent sampling. I am happy to tell you which ones still work 20 years later, and which ones don't ever seem to work. Can also spill the beans on performance issues & costs of ownership. I am biased by experience & results.

We inspected this WSB system for a property transaction for the buyer. Annual maintenance reports we review said everything was fine.

We often use the analogy that our wastewater treatment systems are our "patients" As biological treatment systems, they have specific needs to function & perform The geotechnical, mechanical, structural elements support healthy biological function and need to be maintained & routinely have a check up. This is where discussions on diet, flow, age, use patterns, supplements & diagnostic tests prove to be critical to optimize health & longevity of the system over its lifecycle. We keep detailed digital records of each visit, pictures, notes, benchmark specifications, so we can ensure performance management is optimized too. These records are digitally available to the homeowner, technician onsite, & can be shared with the system designer, installer, regulator or new home owner. We can also analyze the meta data for patterns, trends and predictive failures or required maintenance interventions across our service area, system types, component manufacturers, designs, installers. Good data. Yes it's wastewater, but it's really about environmental public health protection services. So we want to do it in a way that makes proactive decision making based on good technical data the preference. No more install cheap & forget about it for administrative & budget efficiency. We can't always tell you what will work for sure - but we have lots of data on what doesn't work, and that's helpful for innovation of services & robust technology. Enjoy your summer, we will be working with our "patients".

Right there at the bottom of the stairs too. Steel lids over corroded & collapsing septic tank. Real estate transaction due diligence inspection. Vendors are incredulous that it needs any work. "It flushes every time"

Working in wastewater services presents an increased exposure risk to pathogenic infections including E.coli O157:H7 & Hep A. Worker protection starts with awareness of biological safety hazards, exposure pathways, risk mitigation & responsibilities. The primary sanitary function of onsite wastewater treatment is disinfection to prevent these pathogens from entering the drinking water supply. This type of pathogenic contamination occurs when the system is not performing to design specifications including saturation of soils. Mixing septic tank effluent directly into the water table. Take home message: A septic system can function to dispose of sewage & not perform the basic function of protecting the water from pathogenic contamination.

In Ontario - factoring fuel, insurance, truck, wages and disposal costs - if you are quoted under $450 + tax for a septic tank pump out - there is a corner being cut. If the critical service companies can't be profitable doing it right - we invite disaster in one form or another.

Heading back to Egypt for the rest of the summer. Over the past 18 months or so, the Egyptian currency has been cut in half relative to the dollar. So my little wad of cash that I had lingering from last time that I will be bringing with me is worth less. 1 USD = 31 EGP A🧵

Due diligence inspection for property sale - condition upon arrival- sewage pump installed into 1st compartment of deep buried septic tank - discharge directly to adjacent creek. How many of these situations exist in Ontario? Increases to costs to replace systems to meet current OBC lead to “desperate discharge” in some cases, but negligence is also a factor.
