The housing crisis is simple: We built 3 million fewer homes than we needed for 15 years. Then we blamed the people who couldn't afford the ones we did build. Classic.

"Frugality" is boomer code for "I didn't expect my inability to understand massive problems would cause pushback and some mild insults."

I really had no idea there would be this level of hate, anger and just absolute psychosis over suggesting frugality.

Jokes that are going too far: - $25 fast food meals - Paying property taxes - $400k "starter homes" - 3% raises with 4% inflation - Daycare costing more than rent - Working your whole life to "enjoy" 10 years of retirement Hilarious. Truly.

Boomers want you to work harder than they ever did for less and experience zero joy or novelty while doing it. Drop that hecking game controller and don't you dare get that $5 coffee treat, or you'll never afford a house that costs 10x your salary. It's gaslighting, end of.
๐Ÿค” Waifus@Xenomorphica

@Punished_4AGE this still doesn't matter stop buying into their framing of the argument man "you order door dash twelve times a year so you deserve to be poor, if you just didn't order it you'd own a house in, oh, about 6 billion years of saving and eating dirt for dinner"

Your father retired at sixty. He bought a caravan. He saw his grandkids on Tuesdays. He had time. You are sixty four. Your knees are gone. Your back is ruined. And they have moved the line again. Sixty seven. Then sixty eight. Then sixty nine. They sold three years of your retirement to balance their books. They sold five years of your wife's pension to balance their books. They will sell your children's whole retirement before they are done. Healthy life expectancy in this country is sixty three. You will retire sick. If you retire at all. The printer at Threadneedle Street never stops. The spending at the Treasury never stops. The excuses at Downing Street never stop. Three machines grinding through your life. You were not given more years to enjoy. You were given more years to serve.

"Gen Z" does not door dash. They don't go to restaurants, they don't go to the cinema. Their main expenses are their car and rent. Meanwhile the people accusing them of frivolous spending have $15+k collections of kitsch trinkets that will go straight into landfill when they die.
The Refined Populist@RefinedPopulist

Except Gen Z takes every criticism as contempt. Tell them to stop spending $50/day on DoorDash and suddenly youโ€™re โ€œout of touch,โ€ โ€œbootstrapping,โ€ or โ€œignoring systemic issues.โ€ At some point adults need to hear unpleasant truths without needing them packaged as therapy.

Any millennial defending boomers dumping on us with โ€œbut muh Foldgers coffeeโ€ is a generation traitor. Boomers collected 4% interest on their checking accounts, retired with full pensions and now make way more money retired than when they did working. Blue collar benefits included full health care with little to no premiums, as well. I love my boomer parents and they buck the current trends of their peers, but both of them paid for their college education with a part time job

Boomers never planned for life after themselves. A lot of people ask what the plan is for family formation, or for young men to build careers, or how anyone is supposed to clean up the mess created by Boomers. The reality is: there is no plan, there will be a power vacuum.
GrapeApe@GrapeApe9k

I'm starting to think that crushing the birth rates as close to zero as possible is the explicit policy goal. It's hard to see how we could be even more hostile to family formation and fertility than we are now. They don't think they'll need humans anymore.
