The reason zoomers spend $28 on lunch isn't because they can't budget. It's because they're nihilistic. There is no next decade. There's barely a next pay period. They'll get replaced by a jeet or AI at the drop of a hat. Why the fuck should they care what they spend on lunch?

I’ve been hearing for like 5+ years now that millennials and Gen Z are killing the bar/restaurant business by not spending their money there

Boomers and Gen X packed lunches. Not sure why this stuff enrages zoomers. Boomers lived frugally. Going out to lunch was a big deal. Most didn't have long lunch breaks, especially blue collar. You didn't DoorDash, dinners were made at home. I don't even DoorDash in 2026.

The cost of food is completely out of control. There is no “both sides” to this. Costco bulk chicken and ground beef are not even competitive anymore. And if you want to argue that chicken and beef are luxuries, then you are literally a communist agitator

Loaf of bread = $5 Peanut butter = $4 Jelly = $4 18 pack of chips = $12 Bag of apples = $5 Total = $30 And you'll have lunch for an entire week or two. $2-4 average per day. Inflation isn't the problem. Your spending habits are.

@aisingioron In the time it took you to craft this response, you could have made a basic sandwich. Just make the sandwich. Save your money and make a sandwich for lunch. $28 a day for takeout = $140 a week = $560 a month. It costs less than $25 a week to make a lunch. Make a fucking sandwich

Salmon was so cheap in medieval Europe that servants had to put in their contract that they couldn't be served salmon too many days per week lol.

This misunderstands boomer hoarding, which is generally an extension of a SCARCITY mindset. “If I throw this out or sell it or give it away, I may not be able to reobtain it in the future for a reasonable price. I’ll keep it.” It takes security to part with “stuff” comfortably
