@Scxrchlandxr Exactly - it’s also very niche vocab. I recommend changing your social media feeds to be in your target language. Much more effective

Changing ur entire phone language settings to the language ur studying is the most neutral learning ever not really engrossed in it and if ur always in the phone u already know what the text says without actually needing to translate

@PolyglotZone I think generally even if people are unfamiliar with CEFR, their image of what fluency means corresponds to roughly B2+. The people who are A2 in many languages and claim fluency are being intentionally misleading, as that’s not what anyone imagines when they think fluency

Most can't agree on what the term "fluency" means. For that reason, does it make sense why people use it? If we can agree that it means something like "B2 or higher" that might help. Otherwise we see things like: "he is fluent in 20 languages". Sure, he is A2+ in each one.

I feel so lucky to be a native English speaker. We get a lot for free learning both Romance and Germanic languages

I get why people want to learn a language in 6 months, but for me what really excites me is how good I can get in my lifetime

A great source of input for learning French is LudovicBvideos on youtube. Each episode is a day following someone in a different profession. What I love is the diversity of jobs - you get exposed to vocabulary you would not normally hear @LudovicBvideo #langtwt

@Tiascope Do you use much learner-focused comprehensible input, e.g Lazy Chinese?

True, this is why I don’t recommend anyone to study the grammar with textbooks alone, especially if you don’t have a teacher. For me I use yaya mandarin and Chinese zero to hero youtube channel, as well as DeepSeek to get a better understanding of the grammar.

Maybe unpopular opinion, but HelloChinese seems to be better for grammar than the HSK textbooks. The explanations are easy to understand but thorough. The ones from the books usually left me confused or weren't detailed enough.
