@PedroRivie95096 @MuseZack It is common knowledge that Ukraine has been sent older munitions and vehicles that have been replaced by procuring newer visions of the same, therefore improving the stockpiles. So, with respect, this sounds like pro Putin propaganda.

@MuseZack We're also not nearly as prudent or necessarily parsimonious as we've been spending the last 5 years greatly depleting our stockpiles by sending so many weapons to Ukraine, Israel, and now splurging them on Iran Clearly we didn't learn our lessons from Pearl Harbor

I'm reading about the Two Ocean Navy Act of 1940 & how the fleet needed to defeat Germany & Japan was already under construction when Pearl Harbor happened & from today's perspective it's impossible to imagine America's political establishment being that strategic & prescient.

@Sam_Dumitriu @mttjon Am v happy owning the freehold of my Edinburgh tenement main door flat and not having to pay a service charge to anybody. Bills get paid for what needs doing when it needs doing, for the amount required and no more.

Very bad take — in apartment blocks free holders have zero accountability... None... At all... It's a terrible system and there's a reason why it only exists in England and Wales, and nowhere else in the world
Sam Dumitriu@Sam_Dumitriu

You don't hate landlords - you hate the consequences of a housing shortage caused by restrictive planning rules. You don't hate freeholders - you hate the consequences of building cost inflation, disproportionate fire safety rules, and having to make major decisions about your home with complete strangers.

🇬🇧 Every diesel engine on earth is named after the WRONG man. 🇬🇧 And here's the worst part. They took the real inventor's own engine and called it a "semi-diesel." Named after the man who came second. In 1890, a British engineer from Halifax filed a patent for a compression-ignition engine. Three years before Rudolf Diesel. Built it. Sold it. FORTY-FIVE THOUSAND engines running before Diesel had even built a working prototype. The first compression-ignition locomotive? British. Woolwich Arsenal, 1896. An Akroyd engine. But Diesel had better marketing. A bigger name. A louder voice. So history gave him the credit. His name was Herbert Akroyd Stuart. He moved to Australia. Died in obscurity. Buried back in Halifax where he started. Next time you see the word DIESEL at a petrol station, remember the name it should say. Akroyd. Be part of us 👉 proudofus.co.uk 👈 Be Proud Of Us. 🇬🇧

Exactly as I suspected. Bystanders doing nothing and not calling the police, but rather filming. I mean at this point, if they had called the police or tried to stop the criminals, the bystanders would likely get arrested for filming crime or trying to stop them. Lose, lose situation I suppose. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 What I know is that business should be allowed to keep a weapon in there for protection purposes. Need a 2nd amendment like America. How can Brits protect their homes, families, businesses without it? All Brits have the ability to do is use reasonable force against criminals trying to invade their homes and businesses to my knowledge right? 🤦🏼‍♀️

I'm simultaneously a bit sad that Avatar's spectacular VFX wizardry isn't being put to use on something thematically richer & more ambitious (Simmons' Hyperion! Brin's Uplift saga!) while recognizing that Cameron was correct in keeping things simple to play to a broad audience.

Someone told me that Ricky Gervais was the singer for a New Wave band in the early 80s called Seona Dancing so I went to find their songs expecting them to be the worst thing ever, but...no lie, they were actually quite good! youtube.com/watch?v=Kuy1Z4…

@Noodlepig @talkSPORT Exactly it's easy to lend your support to a diddy team when your team are world beaters. If our roles were reversed and England fans had to endure watching their neighbour excel while your team scraped along the bottom, they would feel exactly as Scotland fans do.

@talkSPORT It’s called bitterness. It’s easy to root for an underdog. It’s easy for the English to support Scotland/wales/ireland etc because they are minnows. The underdogs never root for the powerhouse that’s why. Same reason people love seeing Man Utd’s demise, Liverpool struggle etc.

@HLTCO Perfect illustration of why soccer is the best sport. Scotland were useless but scored 3 extraordinary goals against a team that completely outclassed them in every department from start to finish even with 10 men. Glorious madness 😁

@Sam_Dumitriu I'm convinced that most modern design is incredibly boring because "minimal" is synonymous with Scandi design and most architects lack the self-confidence to know how to do ornament.

@MuseZack Except in Scotland and Ireland of course where it originated. Halloween has always been a big holiday here with our own non Americanised traditions. In England historically bonfire night dominated, though less so now for the reasons you give.

"This thing we saw in a movie looks like fun, let's do it for real" happens more often than you might realize. Halloween as a global holiday with costumes and trick or treating was pretty much entirely a product of people in other countries seeing it in E.T.

America should be embracing trade opportunities and peace vs. advocating for the neocon agenda of war with Russia. Why would we alienate a superpower when we could have open dialogue for peace and negotiate trade that would benefit all Americans?

There is a co-ordinated push-back from the gambling industry against a gambling tax. Last couple of weeks saw Entain (Coral and Ladbrokes) and Evoke (William Hill) both say that a tax rise would drive people to illegal websites. Today it's the turn of Betfred.
