Did you know that hearing protection has a shelf-life and in most cases doesn't last indefinitely? For ear muffs / ear defenders that is usually between two and five years from the date they were made. Replacing them should be part of an employer's noise risk assessment. thenoisechap.com/noise-safety-i…

@SandyofSuffolk To be fair, that’s quite normal. I am away every week. I’ve paid £49 for. Travelodge in a small market town and then seen the exact same room going at £259. Same with some Holiday Inns. Supply and demand sadly.

A hotel we often go to in the Cotswolds in February for our anniversary is £120 per room per night including breakfast. Just looked at the prices for June as I fancy going back there. £1,100 for 3 nights!!!😲 We're not going. 😡

Isn’t the number of taxed private vehicles continually going up, not down, so the tax take is higher, not lower? The number of vehicles is going up about 1% every year. I tax a car, a van and a motorbike. I’m fairly sure I’m paying for a good five mile stretch of the M5 all by myself at the current tax rates!

@GBullstein @jemmm85517813 It is worth noting. The UK accounts for a relatively small share of annual global emissions, roughly 0.7% to 1.2% of the total, making it a minor contributor to current yearly emissions, especially compared to top emitters like China.

@dontforgetchaos At the risk of being overly nerdy, both Aluminium and Aluminum are correct. The chap who created it himself switched between the two a lot, we just chose one and the Americans another.

@the_gpc_ @lx_wanderer Not the greatest quality but means a huge amount to me. Taken with a very cheap 35mm film camera back in 1992, possibly even a disposable camera. Just caught Mark looking straight at the camera.

You are too late to the party, that was last weekend. This is the UK, two weeks ago I had the woodburner lit as it was so cold, last week it was 30+ degrees and melting Brits, this coming week is 17 degrees and raining. That’s why we don’t bother with A/C, it’s just not worth it. 😄

Employers: If you have ear muffs, it is worth checking what version of EN352 they are certified to. If it says 1993 as the year then as that has been defunct for a long time now, the ear muffs are well past their usable shelf-life and should be replaced.

At a cider brewery for a noise assessment today. They say ‘you can have as much as you want to take back with you when you’re done’. Came on the motorbike rather than in the car. Noooooo 😭😭 thenoisechap.com

One of the ways I keep my Noise Chap work’s climate impact down (on my last calculation I was actually negative by quite a long way) is by planting and maintaining woodlands. Looking gorgeous up there today. I planted 140 new trees last year and of them the majority are thriving well.

@50CrazyFacts @The_TUC The UK has no law on maximum temperatures at work. Workplace temperature falls into the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations. No maximum is stated.

BREAKING 🚨 | As Britain's first heatwave of 2026 begins, the TUC is calling for a maximum working temperature to protect workers. Workers should be able to stop work above 30°C, or 27°C for those doing strenuous jobs. With heatwaves becoming more common, we need new laws on maximum working temperatures, cooler workplaces, and climate action to reduce global heating.
