I just added in my ChatGPT instructions the 2026 state of code. LLMs still thinks we write all of code by hand. Ironic when you're thinking about the fact THEY are writing it now

@reach_vb I’ve been using Codex for way more things now than just dev, I dream about the day ChatGPT and Codex merge so they also share both memories and chat experience

Memories in both ChatGPT and Codex are godsend! It allows them to contextualise and hyper specialise outputs and generations to you and your “taste” I’m often amazed by how Codex would just know tiny details of which tests to run, what commit dynamics it should follow and how to design things based on my preferences - just because it learns from all your past sessions 10/10 would recommend enabling!
Nivi@nivi

Memory in ChatGPT has gotten INSANELY good and nobody is talking about it. It shocks me daily.

@simpsoka The Codex app seem to show me only the 50 latest threads, everything past that is still on my computer but not in the UI which is very annoying when I need to show something I did couple weeks back

GPT models lack taste, we can see it instantly when it’s generating frontends but not only, things like ideas I prefer for Claude still. Also lacks personality, it is way better with 5.5 but not as natural as Sonnet or Opus who have something in particular, they are very human like. Making 5.5 speak exactly like me is not possible yet though Claude is way better at this

When do you reach for other models instead of Codex? What can we do better? Hit me with all of your frustrations. dms open. If you can give me detail (e.g. specifics/transcipts) - it'll help a lot in finding out exactly what we need to do to improve the next model

@mark_k @OpenAI It may simply be the Codex iOS app, since you can literally control your computer from your phone, a ton of not dev related use cases

A big launch is being prepared by @OpenAI. This post is from a Codex engineer. What could he be referring to? Maybe it's about the upcoming new "voice mode" for ChatGPT though. It would fit with the "reinventing personal computing" narrative.

Not only for coding but imagine being able to actually control your computer from your phone, connect to all the context and the apps and everything you already have. To me, it’s huge.. Imagine, not even for work related, go grab my cv that is on my computer and sent it to X on gmail. While not being home, go on my gaming computer and go download Y on Steam.

as a side note, young people seem to prefer to interact with AI via voice, and old people, and people in the middle like to type. i wonder if this will change.

people are really starting to use voice to interact with AI, especially when they have a lot of context to dump. GPT-Realtime-2 comes to the API today; it is a pretty big step forward. (we are working on improvements to voice in chat.)

@aidan_mclau @pigeon__s you’ve got to try Claude (sonnet or opus), it is very natural and very human in the way it speaks Even when I try to make 5.5T talk like young people as if it was by messages, it is cringy and not natural. Though Claude crushes this test.

ok so gpt-5.5-instants personality seems to be like 3598x better than 5.3s and genuinely not slop i would say but i still feel like i prefer claudes a lot and even kimis but its like good enough now that i dont really care that much

@ajambrosino Codex app is so good, great job to the team Fun idea feature: click on the pet and be able to give him new tasks by clicking on it and talking If it could see screen somehow, would be even better to give it with prompt
