@lamps_apple @harryjsisson @ScottPresler Sparnburger didn’t overrule anything, the Supreme Court of Virginia is who upheld the referendum and allowed it to move forward signaling that voters — not courts — should decide whether to authorize the change. This is fully legal. You’re just pissed you’re getting outplayed.

Texas didn’t ask voters to violate their constitution to do it.. Their state constitution and statutes allow the legislature to redraw districts whenever it wants, as long as it passes a new map through the normal legislative process. It did. It passed. Yet in Virginia they are supposed to have a bipartisan Redistricting Commission… Spanberger overruled their decision… 8 legislators + 8 citizens, created by a constitutional amendment that Voters themselves approved in 2020 to reduce partisan gerrymandering. The state constitution explicitly assigns this to the commission every 10 years. The legislature does not have unilateral power to redraw congressional maps mid-decade under their current rules So democrats are asking voters to “temporarily” violate their own constitution after adding the commission just 6 years ago… explicitly to avoid what they are now asking them to do..
