I think it boils down to this: Diego Luna himself said that re-watching Rogue One after Andor would reconfigure our perception of the film. For most people, that 100% happened, and changed it/made the film richer. But some didn’t like it and see it as a contradiction…

Watered him down? Lmfao they took a character that most people wrote off, (I didn’t but I digress) and made him one of the most compelling characters of all time and the character with the most live action screentime (Mando don’t count he got a helmet on + multiple actors)

That isn’t inherently coming at it from a Jyncassian perspective, even if people (myself included) openly ship it. Maybe the overall vibe is different here, but it’s not the case on Tumblr 🤷‍♀️

@therebelcaptain @CHARLOT21755647 When the criticisms of the show are coming from a jyncass perspective, it's not invalidating the critique "make it about the ship," that's what they did... if someone wants to critique the show outside of a shipping way then that's fine, but that's not what's been happening

@CHARLOT21755647 It comes from a love of R1 as a whole film and how I feel that Andor disregards key aspects of the beginning half of the film and Cassian’s characterisation feels inconsistent to me, etc. I genuinely wish that I enjoyed S2 more, but it’s not because of a ship.

Also reminder that also art is who it is adopted by, Pepe the Frog was not a right wing cartoon in its inception. It was adopted & converted by the far-right in 2015/16 Andor had been widely adopted by the left since 2022. Its messages have shown up at REAL protests across the US

Casual reminder that ABC is owned by Disney—so as much as you want to tell yourself that Andor is some revolutionary anti-fascist masterpiece, remember that it is only as progressive in its messaging as they allowed it to be.

i know some of y’all like to post tumblr screenshots of andor critiques and present them as the ranting of bitter rebelcaptain shippers or whatever, but it’s honestly super disingenuous to paint any criticism of the show in that light.
