I’m curious because almost no one uses the textbook I used. What Japanese textbook did you use as a beginner, or are using now? I studied at the nearby college’s (not my college) continuing education language course and we used Japanese for Busy People.

@_celia_bedelia_ “Don’t wear [thing], that’s what the patriarchy wants you to wear! You can only wear [other thing]!” Like, that’s not freedom, that’s just exchanging one master for another. Everyone should wear what they want—that is true choice and freedom.

Then don’t wear one - sorry you hate your body, yourself, and cute bathing suits. No one is forcing any woman to wear a bikini. There are millions of swimsuit options for women! That includes shorts! Body suits! Burkinis! Acting like a bikini is humiliating just means you hate women
🗡 vixen · ❄️@waifuterf

@_celia_bedelia_ yeah i’m not falling for the morality debate bait. objectively bikinis are impractical and humiliating considering males are nowhere near as exposed in their swimsuits and theirs isn’t identical to let alone more revealing than literal underwear. (re-uploaded because of typos)

THIS. Now I know some of you will be like “but we shouldn’t have to do all this extra work!!” True, but whining about it? Unproductive. Taking these steps? Productive AND can help nudge the way toward practices/systems that don’t inadvertently shut the foreign fans out.

My take as a music events organiser in Japan: if you want the industry to open up more to foreign visitors, the most important thing you can do is STOP BUYING TICKETS FROM PROXY SERVICES! You have other options!

Hey here’s a hot take: Japanese media is made for Japanese people. Tickets to live shows and such are limited, and are intended for their domestic audience. Once you open up these limited seats to the world, suddenly the local fans can’t get seats. It’s that simple.

IVF update chain If everything goes smoothly, we’ll return two embryos to my tummy the first week of June. This will be our 4th embryo return procedure. Wish us luck. I’ll have to feel awful all month because of the meds. 🫠

Didn’t think I’d be back here but here I am. We gave up on infertility treatments. And now I’m pregnant naturally for the first time ever. I’m only at 6 weeks and I have no idea if Baby Candidate 3 will do better than its predecessors, but hey! Maybe we will have a baby.

Went to the lady’s hospital and got the results of our final IVF embryo return. Negative. I guess I’m finally retiring from infertility treatments. Gonna continue my leave from work for a month or so to recover as I slowly ease back into regular life.

I'm 49 y.o. now, I think a lot about life. Since we don’t have child, those thoughts feel heavier. To be honest, I feel despair than hope. But I still want to leave something positive in this world, I don’t want to betray the positive spirit from my grandmother’s generation.

@fulltimerinjp The new museum is definitely worth visiting. We also have a ton of castles. Combined with the ruins that spot the area, the castle density in the past was ridiculous. 🤣

@TheStarLi You are quite good at selling Gifu! Makes me want to go again. I walked around Sekigahara once, tried to go to the museum, but the buses of elderly came right before me and the wait was going to be a bit too long. Went to a small castle in Gifu prefecture once too… I’ll return

Random thing that I sometimes think about: koi vs carp. Most people in Japan are taught to call koi “carp” in English. But in American English, a carp is ugly, brown-black fish. Koi, though they are a kind carp, are usually called koi. koistory.com/blog/koi-vs-ca…

So while both are scientifically carp, carp usually means the ugly, wild carp and koi means the decorative, carefully bred fish.
