Nice surprise this morning. One of the colleges I teach at decided to raise the per class payment by ¥1000 per class. Backdated to January this year!

@Karai_Dan It’s a stronger argument to say you couldn’t afford a refrigerator. That would make it difficult to food prep. Additionally, if you really don’t have time to cook, you are almost certainly on a work schedule that is killing you, so, if it’s not making you rich, get out.

This isn’t actually a thing. Nearly everyone on earth has time to prepare their own meals. Saying “I don’t have time to cook” means you’d rather spend your time doing something else or pay service workers to prepare your food for you.

@TheStarLi You are quite good at selling Gifu! Makes me want to go again. I walked around Sekigahara once, tried to go to the museum, but the buses of elderly came right before me and the wait was going to be a bit too long. Went to a small castle in Gifu prefecture once too… I’ll return

@GaryLuscombe1 Lunch, onsen and show… still just a bit above my range on price… I’m sure it’s worth it, but 8,000 might be my limit…

For something a little different, the ryokan I work for in south Osaka will be putting on a Kyogen comedic play on June 20th Seats are JPY 12,000 per person and include a seasonal kaiseki lunch It will be in Japanese but I've found Kyogen enjoyable even with my limited ability!

@Higgins82 We may live in a time defined by people not understanding the definition of most of the things they say.

@PoltFan69 I did one today. It was OK, especially as it was discounted, but the slow elderly wouldn’t always be my choice of people to be tied to.

Apparently there are still big guided tour groups as a "thing". I thought those mostly died out. Tons of tourists around Hakone.

wow this nighttime outdoor cinema they've done an absolute fantastic job. The food trucks aren't your "normal festival stuff", twinkly lights everywhere, standup tables, all kinds of lounging supplies to borrow but my favorite is the little library ~ snuck away for a little quiet time though (the movie is Tom and Jerry Willy Wonka something so a lot of a lot of)

@radorii Not one solitary choice made in that movie makes a lick of sense.

@jakeadelstein @CBS Comedy is different for everyone I guess… for me, it’s fair to praise his courage as a counter voice against Trump, but I can’t recall the last time I found him funny.

@Peckitt Is your situation special? The best reason to own is to control the future monthly costs as you approach retirement. Do you receive any housing benefits/rent control? That changes the equation.

An unpopular opinion: I wish governments & individuals would stop using owning a house as a mark of a good economy/personal success. As a person with disabilities, l if you gave a Billion I’m still not buying a house. I need the money for a carer. Ownership does not interest me.

A colleague asked me if I wanted to go to the gym with him today. Is that a thing we do now? I exercise, I like to walk, in fact have to do so because of my disability, but I consider that ‘treatment’, going to a gym is not something I consider a ‘social occasion’.

I just finished watching "Rental Family" on @DisneyPlus and thoroughly enjoyed it! This moving film, set in Japan with a powerful performance from Brendan Fraser @Brendanjmfraser, explores the profound beauty of human connection.

@CacheThatCheque He faked it for 5 years, embarrassed at all the times he had looked down his nose at others saying “my wife has never done anything like that”… and after 5 years of lies, one insane conversation at home is too much not to share…

@CacheThatCheque I’ve met people who made it a full decade of either truly believing there situation was completely unique… and then one late night conversation reveals he had believed it for 5 years, while she faked it, and then once he realized he was in the same box as all of us…

This is live news footage from the ongoing search for 11-year-old Yuki Adachi (安達結希君) in Nantan City, Kyoto Prefecture. He went missing March 23 after his father dropped him off ~200m from school for a graduation event—he never entered the building, and no CCTV or witnesses saw him afterward. His yellow backpack was found March 29 in a remote mountain area 3km away. Over 600 officers have searched the forests for 2 weeks with no other clues. The video shows aerial views of police vehicles, search teams, and activity in the woods (including blue tarps/gear being handled). The case remains unsolved; police are treating it as a disappearance with possible third-party involvement.
