Thresher sharks are migratory, crossing national boundaries and the high seas as they move through the world’s oceans. Protecting them requires international cooperation. We support a proposal to protect them further at #CMSCOP15. Follow along: wcs.org/cms-cop15

A red fox’s fantastic voyage starts in England and leads to WCS’s @BronxZoo, writes @nytimes. Government officials often turn to our team in these situations. Our staff is expert at rescuing wildlife that has been trafficked into the area. nytimes.com/2026/03/17/nyr…

🌿🦁 There’s something powerful about young people stepping up for conservation efforts. That’s why I was delighted to hear from students from @TheWCS’ Career Lattice Program at the Bronx Zoo about their work and how they are building a more sustainable future in the Bronx.

Convention on Migratory Species (CMS)
The Government of Ecuador has proposed listing the Scalloped hammerhead shark (𝘚𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘳𝘯𝘢 𝘭𝘦𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘪) under CMS Appendix I. 🦈 Scalloped hammerhead sharks are true ocean migrants. Born in coastal nursery areas, they later move into the open ocean, while adult females return on seasonal birthing migrations. They can travel thousands of kilometres in short time frames, and they are the only large hammerhead species known to school, a behaviour that also makes them more vulnerable to targeted fishing. 🎣 With declines of more than 80% over the past three generations, this Critically Endangered migratory species will be considered for stronger international conservation action at #CMSCOP15. Convention on Migratory Species (CMS)
132 countries and the EU have signed the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), which has been in force since 1979. By bringing countries together, supporting research, and coordinating conservation efforts across the Range States where migratory aquatic, avian and terrestrial species occur, CMS helps safeguard migratory wildlife, their habitats, and the vital benefits they provide. 🌐 (En français / En español) #CMSCOP15

Upcoming #CMSCOP15 offers urgent opportunity to aid migratory species. “We know what needs to be done, and we look forward to galvanizing action by govts and other stakeholders to protect, conserve and save these species,” said WCS’s Susan Lieberman. news.mongabay.com/2026/03/outloo…

It was great meeting with participants of the WCS’ HS program, including those from the NY Aquarium, to talk about my work in government. We had a great conversation about legislation they would like to see supporting our wildlife. I look forward to continuing this partnership!

Yesterday, I was honored to meet with students who have worked or interned with @TheWCS at their aquarium and zoos throughout NYC. These future leaders spoke about their positive experiences, and we discussed the many ways these institutions are vital.

Convention on Migratory Species (CMS)
Tomorrow: join us for the CMS webinar on health and migratory species! 🦍🩺 Healthy migratory species are vital to healthy ecosystems. Environmental health underpins biodiversity, ecosystem stability, and human well-being. Because they connect our skies, oceans and landscapes, migratory species can signal environmental change, yet they face rising threats from disease, pollution, habitat loss, and climate change. 🦠 Join us and learn why wildlife health is vital for conservation, what this means for migratory species, and how it connects to wider One Health efforts as we look ahead to #CMSCOP15.
