OpenAI announcing the focusing on Coding and business is essentially them saying: we’re not going to win the consumer trust battle, so we’re going to plant our flag in enterprise and developer tools instead. The problem is Anthropic already owns the enterprise trust story and Claude Code is eating their lunch on the developer side. So they’re pivoting into the exact space where they’re already losing. It’s also a tacit admission that the consumer ChatGPT product, the thing that made them culturally dominant, is no longer their primary identity. That’s an enormous strategic concession dressed up as a pivot announcement.

@RyanMaue Every year does seem to be just about the hottest year ever, though. This week’s highs in the west likely all time records. Godzilla El Niño potentially catastrophic for 2027. No?

@WestHam_Central Taty's high pressure should not be undervalued. He buzzes like an obnoxious wasp around the opposition defense, complicating playmaking and leading to turnovers. He'll find his goalscoring streak soon.

Taty and Pablo offer...no goals, no assists, however, they do offer buckets full of work rate and team work, which is weirdly working very well, a huge factor in our change of form.

Ex-Anthropic Scientists Launch $1B AI scientific discovery A team of former Anthropic researchers is reportedly raising $175 million at a $1 billion valuation for a new startup called Mirendil, aiming to supercharge scientific discovery with AI. Scientific breakthroughs in various fields using AI are the next big thing; Sam Altman also speaks of their goal being autonomous AI researchers by 2028. Led by Behnam Neyshabur and Harsh Mehta, the company plans to build advanced AI systems capable of long-term scientific reasoning to accelerate breakthroughs in biology and materials science. @ben_j_todd You are missing the whole point of self-reinforcing positive feedback processes. The rate of acceleration, if AI can improve on itself, is not incremental but exponential. So far, AI model progress has fit that pattern and there is no reason to expect it won’t continue.

If AI progress stopped now, it would be a normal technology. One-off 5-10% productivity growth. Some routine white collar tasks automated. We chat to AI tools a lot. But no big economic or scientific acceleration. Ergo we don't have AGI.

I remain skeptical of lab grown meat, I haven't done enough research into it to fully understand any benefits/risks, but the fact it's grown in a lab 🧫 makes me wonder what are the future implications of consistent consumption 🤔 I'd need to see the whole process + 5 years minimum of data showing any effects after 2x 100-200g portions daily before I eat it

Since the first $325,000 lab-grown burger in 2013, prototype lab-grown meat costs have fallen by about 99–99.9%, to around $10–20 per burger.  I've tried them, and they taste just like real meat!

@gdb Once AI can autonomously improve upon itself in an iterative positive feedback cycle, the only limiting factor is compute. It seems like we are there.

GPT-5.4 is great at coding, knowledge work, computer use, etc, and it's nice to see how much people are enjoying it. But it's also my favorite model to talk to! We have missed the mark on model personality for awhile, so it feels extra good to be moving in the right direction.

When most people think about alternative proteins, they think about food innovation. Policymakers increasingly think about food security. Global food systems have been stress-tested repeatedly in recent years — pandemic disruptions, war-driven grain shocks, livestock disease outbreaks, and tightening land and water constraints. At the same time, demand for meat continues to rise. That combination creates structural risk. Alternative proteins offer at least four strategic advantages: • They create new domestic manufacturing and export opportunities. • They require significantly less land and water, strengthening food security. • They eliminate exposure to animal pathogens. • They reduce biosecurity vulnerabilities. Energy security reshaped geopolitics when leaders realized dependence creates risk. Protein security is moving in the same direction. I explore this in Chapter 10 of Meat, which looks at the food and national security case for alternative proteins. The book is out now: buff.ly/A0p6Npe

Don't care about the Forest result. I just watched 11+ West Ham players fight for our club to seal a massive three points! Level on points with Forest, 1 point behind Spurs and 3 points behind Leeds. The great escape is very much ON! 👊🏻⚒️ #WHUFC #COYI
