@bornauthority all dialects and variants of Marathi are beautiful and have a sense of belonging attached to it. I hope this bullying based on the puritanical nature of most sophisticated form of Marathi dies down forever 🙏🏽

Expert's Dilemma: the more specialized you become, the less open you are to creative solutions from other fields. But the more you explore other fields, the more you risk losing credibility in your home field. (Night Science recap, Day 3)

Close to 100 Nagpurkars came together yesterday to make it a housefull show for the Marathi film Tighi. This sensitive, layered film is now in its 5th week in theatres. It is running with subtitles and I encourage everyone to go watch it. One of the best Indian films of the year.

“In contemporary models of inflation this is the source of all matter and radiation in the universe.” — Steven Weinberg in “Cosmology” (It’s an inflaton by the way.) How much fun it must have been to write those words! A relatively modern treatment, it’s an awesome textbook to have. I’m working through it and loving every minute!

@DDNewslive

The martyred child Salma, only 5 years old: I used to see her every day selling small cakes. She was the youngest small business owner in the world, selling just five cakes a day. She worked so hard, yet she was deprived of a childhood like other children. She sold cakes, but she never sold her homeland — not at any price. I recorded this video during the harshest days of famine under the siege of northern Gaza. Yesterday, when I went to provide care for a wounded person near her family’s tent, I asked about her, eager to see her again. The moment her name was mentioned, her family began to cry in deep grief. They told me that only days earlier, she was killed when an explosive device hidden inside a toy detonated. She thought it was a toy and picked it up because she could not afford to buy one — her family was poor. She carried what she believed was a toy, but it exploded in her hands, and her small body was torn into five burned pieces. Instead of the five cakes she used to sell every day, her body was turned into five shattered fragments — the result of deadly remnants left behind, turning Gaza’s children into victims day after day. The martyred child Salma is only one story among thousands of stories of systematic killing and ethnic cleansing. Please share the story of the martyred child Salma with the world. Perhaps something will move, and this hatred and killing will stop. #Children_of_Gaza_are_being_killed before the eyes and ears of the whole world #Gaza_is_calling_for_help #Stop_the_killing Written by Dr. Mostafa Naim From northern Gaza

This guy deserved a Field Medal atleast. George Dantzig's Simplex method was the standard way to find optimal solution to an objective function constrained by linear inequalities. This was slow and compulationally expensive as one had to traverse from one vertice of n-dimensional convex space to a more optimal adjacent vertice. Karmarkars Interior Point method was completely revolutionary as one could travel from inside of the convex space to reach the optimal vertice rather than traversing its surface. Way more efficient than Simplex and used in so many domains including Telecom, Logistics and Production Planning. One of our greatest mathematician in terms of impact.

Meet Narendra Karmarkar ! (Legendary Mathematician from India) The mind behind one of the most important breakthroughs in Mathematics > Born & brought up in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh > Graduated from IIT Bombay with President’s Gold Medal (1978) > Did Master’s from California Institute of Technology > Pursued his PhD at University of California, Berkeley under Richard M. Karp > Became a postdoctoral research fellow at IBM Research > Worked at AT&T Bell Laboratories, one of the world’s leading research labs > Served as Professor at MIT and Princeton University > Developed the revolutionary Karmarkar’s Algorithm for linear programming > Awarded the Fulkerson Prize and Paris Kanellakis Award for his work > Returned to India & Became Homi Bhabha Chair Professor at TIFR > Served as scientific advisor to Ratan Tata and the Tata Group > Where he Led the scaling of an advanced supercomputer at TIFR & outperformed leading global systems at the time Today, his algorithm powers systems in logistics, finance, telecommunications & large-scale planning. A rare genius whose work quietly runs the modern world. Not widely known to the public. But deeply respected in the world of mathematics.
