Egyptian national Ibrahim Ahmed Gharib (49), who was convicted in 2018 of raping a foreign student after following her from a bus from Dublin to Carlow and threatening to kill her, has now been found guilty of raping another woman, Christine Foley, just over a year after being released from prison. In the earlier case, Judge Ms Justice Isobel Kennedy said the offence merited a 12-year sentence but imposed 10 years, citing Gharib's lack of relevant previous convictions and the fact that he was a foreign national. He was released in January 2024 after serving approximately six years of that sentence. A jury has now convicted him of raping Ms Foley on a derelict site in Dublin city centre after following her home. He is due to be sentenced next week. @irishdailymail This is abuse of our asylum system and it needs to be treated as a sign of bad faith. If they boarded a flight, they were required to provide a passport / ID. Those details need to be provided by law to the Irish State. We should move towards copies of passports being required.

If you arrive in a country without your passport, you should simply be refused entry, told to contact your embassy, and required to leave immediately.

I hope Burnham does get rough sleeping down. But he's up against his own record, and ours in Ireland. We've thrown the kitchen sink of resources at it, and the number of rough sleepers in Dublin sticks mostly in a range of 100-150 people on any given night. 136 people at the last count in April 2026. Conor Skehan notes in this timeless @TonightVMTV clip (a few years old now) that 23 homeless charities operate in Dublin with ~900 full time equivalents on payroll. That's many times the number of rough sleepers. Accepting that rough sleeping will always be with us isn't the answer either, but promising to "end" rough sleeping is doomed to fail.

The FT stating the obvious: that high rates of immigration contribute to housing supply/demand mismatch. It is not simply 'supply. supply, supply', as successive governments have stated. Demand needs to be managed when strains exist, as they do in Ireland at present.

"Number of stabbing victims treated in Irish hospitals rises to 15-year high", The two named victims in today's article are Qayyum Balogun killed by a group, some of whom are before the courts and are of African heritage, and Masoumeh Jafri Manojan the Iranian woman in Galway killed and nearly beheaded by her ex-husband, a Shia Muslim Iranian asylum seeker who is now dead.

In today's Irish Daily Mail. The State signed 4,700 deportation orders last year. It carried out 185. That is not enforcement. That is theatre, and it is being funded by the taxpayer. Worse again, the Department of Justice cannot tell us where the rest of them are. I asked directly how many people under deportation orders have gone missing. The Department produced no number at all. So the official position of the Irish State is that it hopes they went home. The same paper reports more than 16,000 people arrived at Dublin Airport without passports since 2020. The public has been asked to accept a lot on immigration.
