A Christmas spectacular. The Selwyn London Carol service took place at Holy Trinity church in Sloane Square (a new venue for us) on December 12th, and there was our biggest congregation yet for this annual favourite. Photos by @thisathranawaka.

how many people does it take to read a non-digital watch? anyway, if you look up Associated Press photos of the event, you can see his watch reads 8:06pm, which is when the address was televised.

@dieworkwear The real crime is that it’s a Datejust and not a Presidential ⌚️

I do wish the BBC would stop calling the prime minister’s wife “Lady Victoria”. That’s not the form. She’s just Victoria, or “Lady Starmer”. He got a knighthood from his job, he wasn’t born an aristocrat, which seems quite an important distinction for a Labour leader.

@twnewstead just so pathetic! shouldnt be encouraging this sort of thing especially when something like this could most definitely be put together by a real person.

@aleksliving yes it absolutely is! I have it on a brown leather strap with a gray face. always liked the original apple watch design but don't like smart watches & don't use an iPhone, so this was perfect for me. exceptional watch, I love the moonphase: youtu.be/h9MbdhsTgco?si…

@NoahKeate I loved the TV show on this, with one of the Franco brothers. Such a cool plot.

Unoriginal thought of the century: Stephen King is just a remarkable writer. Reading 11.22.63 has been an utter pleasure - so erudite, captivating and enchanting. Felt the same about ‘Under the Dome’ … shows there should be no fear towards particularly heavy tomes.

The Ramsay Murray lecture is one of the major events of the Selwyn year - and it's hard to think of a more topical subject or a better qualified speaker than @NickBryantNY. The lecture is on Friday May 10th, in person and online. More information here: sel.cam.ac.uk/events/rm24

I binged the entirety of Traitors S2 last weekend to make the most of this event, and it was worth it! One of my favourite events yet — an excellent panel (especially for the iPlayer evangelist that I am!) and we had a superb audience.
Roger Mosey@rogermosey

Well, that was fun. Huge credit to @hipaulgorton for meeting his @Selwyn1882 audience, and to BBC executives @dnmcg and @SyedaSyeda for taking some searching questions about Traitors - and the future of television. Photos: @thisathranawaka

@EthanYWu @FT @TheEconomist @rbrtrmstrng Ahhhh. Devout listener of the pod, and I felt like I was losing a friend reading today's newsletter. Very sad for me, happy for you. Congrats Ethan! You're an exceptional journalist & presenter, and made finance feel so accessible to this lay person with no previous knowledge.

Today is my last day at the @FT. Later this year I'm starting as Asia correspondent at @TheEconomist, based in Singapore. Writing Unhedged with the great @rbrtrmstrng has been a privilege. Rob brings the wit, wisdom and substance day in & day out. (1/4)

@NoahKeate such an excellent book. i think it was perfectly chosen for A-Levels, there's a lot of value in it. i find that what we learnt from that book is super applicable wherever that English AL might take you. FSF's The Beautiful and Damned is less polished but well worth a read too.

Amazing this was published almost a century ago. I studied 'The Great Gatsby' at A-level — while difficult at the time, my appreciation for the novel, what Fitzgerald was trying to achieve and his use of language has only grown in the years since. It really is outstanding.
Broadhursts Bookseller Legacy@BroadhurstBooks

'The Great Gatsby' by F. Scott Fitzgerald was published #OTD 99 years ago. It was not particularly well-received, & had (what he considered) disappointing initial sales of 20,000 copies. By the time he died in 1940 it was a fairly obscure book - but has roared back since.
