The Shorts Sealand was the first ac to be inducted after the establishment of the Dte of Naval Aviation in the @indiannavy. An order for ten of these was placed in 1952. At that time no other Navy in the world had this a/c, which meant the defence minister was under fire! (1/4)

A Sealand in IN colours stood just outside the Jawahar Bal Bhavan in then-Trivandrum in the 1960s. A Hawker Sea Hawk took over that role and was still standing there last time I was in Thiruvananthapuram:

From Indus Valley to the IFR 2016 This article, co-authored by Cmde @srikantkesnur and Dr Meera Bhadre, was originally written in 2016 for the official coffee table book released to mark the International Fleet Review 2016. The article was published on Meluha Maritime's website as a run up to the IFR that was conducted in Vizag in February 2026 and is being shared here for wider readership. The article sheds light on the role of the ocean in Indian history over three millennia. It offers insights on how the ocean has been a conduit for the propagation of trade, culture, and knowledge across the world.
