Dear Person without cancer on their resume … The cancer battle goes on past chemo, radiation, and hair loss. Please stop demanding individual updates when all I can do some days is a generic one. I truly am doing my absolute best.

Some people always ask what's the hardest part of life with cancer, or life since diagnosis an here lately about what my community is going through an how Im doing with it on top of life with cancer Its a lot its emotional its mental its physical in ways that are hard to explain

@refugeingrief Great way to help cancer etc patients grieving their “coulda” life. But feel like gratitude is the only ok emotion to show. I am so grateful, I’m also grieving a different life. What a gift, to simply hear a person grappling with these issues. My sorrow & joy are both true.

@ThanksCancer My cat knew (& tried alarming me) about my #coloncancer before anyone-even the many docs who sent me home with laxatives or yoga tips when my BAD abdominal pain landed me in their ER/urgent care etc. (But I was 2 young for cancer 🤷, they ordered mental health care, not scans!)

Tell me about your cancer beliefs that aren’t evidence-based or you can’t “prove”. (Also a reminder that we do not judge how others access the placebo effect because the placebo effect can be up to 30% effective and we need all the help we can get!)

@sheilamcronin @CancerFinalGirl I admire your courage and commitment! I agree we have to aggressively clear space, to protect any of ourselves from IT. But i also am trying to learn not to negative self talk, for just existing sometimes, be.. it also takes work, to rewire years of productivity thinking/living.

I hope (like me) you will have phases of feeling better (ups/downs) and something may inspire u- don’t force it and goodness no extra pressure on your self (lol I’m so bad at my own advice)

@peachesvermont Miraculously, yes! Dif chemo, dif side fx now; but I was so grateful to heal from that one. It felt especially cruel, to become allergic to the sun & my favorite summer stuff/cancer distractions.

ALSO #thisiswhatcancerlookslike Painful side fx of a previous chemo; extreme photo-sensitivity. Despite ‘suiting up’ (pic. r) anytime I stepped outside, rays of sun would filter through, igniting my face into searing hot blisters. Solid chemo, tho. 4 stars

@katievscancer …be suffering such profound loss of identity, purpose and value in the world, or even to their own loved ones, that they lose confidence & genuinely wonder about cost v benefit of trying to stick around

A cancer patient may look normal but they might be dealing with financial trauma. A cancer patient may look normal but they may have painful mouth sores & other unseen side effects. A cancer patient may look normal but they could be isolated and lonely. What would you add?

Has anyone else been at this (#stage4cancer) so long, they get kinda excited about new urgent surgeries? Surgery = Mandatory #chemo break 💃🏼 🪩 🕺 😎 Obvi I can take any break, anytime- but my courage to make my own life quality/quantity calculations, is shamefully flimsy.

😂 YES!!! I BEGGED for screenings, was dismissed 1+ years bc I wasn’t ’old enough’ (39). It was much easier to send me home from er with laxatives and notes I was ‘hysterical’ bc I cried from the pain. That ended up being stage4 . Bc they… caught it late. If only I had ‘thoughr’ of early screening!?!?!

…you just seek advice on practical logistics & questions with HUGE consequences for your future (and your kid). I agree recovery first! But you deserve to ask about the other areas too- your “problem” doesn’t negate your desire or ability to investigate and prepare for all u can. Please keep trying. Good luck ❤️/2

@deorumdefectum Advice from others here (“just commit/it’s always some excuse/only treatment should matter now” etc) is kind & true. BUT a bit dismissive, of you as a whole, smart person. I read your posts as VERY sincere about recovery intentions/1

Everybody I talk to says go to treatment. Don't worry about what happens after, meaning homelessness, no job, etc. In my mind, I want to do this & then transition to a sober living place. 30, 60, 90 days has never lasted before. I want real change. I want to be on solid ground.
