“Can I bring my baby to the interview?” The message came in at 11 PM: “Hi, I have an interview with you tomorrow at 2 PM. My childcare fell through. Can I bring my 8-month-old? I understand if you need to reschedule.” Old me would have rescheduled. Unprofessional. Distraction. Red flag. New me replied: “Absolutely. See you tomorrow.” She showed up with her baby on her hip. She apologized three times before even sitting down. Ten minutes in, the baby started crying. She tried to soothe him while answering questions. She apologized again. I stopped the interview and said: “Hey. You’re managing a fussy baby, answering complex questions, and staying calm under pressure. That’s literally the job. Handling chaos while staying professional. You’re already proving you can do it.” Her eyes filled with tears. We hired her. She’s been with us for a year now. The most reliable team member we have. Why? Because when you’re used to handling a screaming infant at 3 AM and still showing up to work the next day, workplace stress feels like nothing. Working parents, especially mothers, are some of the most organized, efficient, and resilient people you’ll ever hire. Yet we lose them because our hiring processes are built for people with zero caregiving responsibilities. If your interview process can’t accommodate a parent facing a childcare issue, you’re not filtering for professionalism. You’re filtering for privilege.

Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru@FrancisNwifuru

Today, we made a landmark trip to Enyim Agbaja, to flag off the construction of a 5-span bridge connecting Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State and Oju Local Government Area of Benue State. When completed, this project can command immeasurable socio-economic benefits for Ebonyi and Benue States. It will ease the transportation of food and offer better routes to Abuja and other Northern States of the Federation. Indeed, Enyim Agbaja is set to become a gateway to trade, commerce, and an overall economic boost for Ebonyi State. I appreciate my dear brother, the Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, who has promised that once we construct the bridge, he will take up the road from Oju Local Government to Vandeikya, his Local Government Area. On a personal note, I feel accomplished starting this project today. The Sudan Mission Hospital in Enyim Agbaja saved my life in 1996 after a ghastly motor accident. With the School of Health, Motherless Babies Home and School for the Deaf located here, this bridge surely will offer a huge rise in the quality of education and operations for these institutions. Let me therefore appreciate the Nigerian Army for their solid show of capacity in taking up this work. It requires a lot of technical processes because of the river. We are grateful to them, even for the concessions they made to help Ebonyi State in this project. The road leading up to the bridge will be awarded too to the same contractor, and I call on the people of Enyim Agbaja, beginning with the traditional ruler, to offer the workers nothing short of their unalloyed support to get the job done. - #FON

The Igbo word for "light bulb" is likely "ọkụ bọlbụ," combining "ọkụ" (light) and "bọlbụ" (bulb). This reflects Igbo's use of loanwords for modern items. While dialects may vary, "ọkụ bọlbụ" is standard per dictionary sources. Pronunciation matters due to Igbo's tonal nature.

I could be having a tough day at work, but I will still make out time to answer my sibling’s call and assure them that because they think their navel is facing one side, it does not mean that they have scoliosis and that it is ok for human bodies to be asymmetrical.
