@_lizharvey 2 years ago, we did a Disney Cruise + Disney World with my in-laws and the cruise was 100x more enjoyable than the parks.

There’s that like cruise reviewer on YouTube that literally just reviews cruise ships and I watched all of them about Disney cruise ships. And its really fascinating that they are pivoting to this being a money maker over the parks but it really is.

@thisiskis @Kdodgers24 Nah I ran is the best by far. Pacing is perfect with that one. Everybody want to rule the world is certainly not the best due to the off pacing, but isn’t the nearly the worst

@hmu95 @KTmBoyle This is what the story was actually about! Everyone has Disney Thoughts but this is an economics story. Besides that, there are free travel agents and YouTube videos to make the most of a Disney vacation. Every destination requires planning and pricing out what you can do.

@KTmBoyle I agree that it’s not an intentional strategy to price out the middle class. I read the article as more of a piece on how big data enables price differentiation (what you learn about price competition in Econ101) in a completely new and almost comprehensive way. Fascinating read.

I went to Disney with my oldest and my mother just after Covid. The Disney hotel we stayed at when I was a kid had replaced the beautiful fountain and pianist in the lobby with a massive bar area that was already packed at 3pm. We haven’t gone back, mainly because it’s sad. A lot of the comments on this piece rightly say the new Disney is unfair to big families and children, but it’s not just about growing wealth inequality and monetizing the ultra wealthy. A child doesn’t care about Michelin-starred restaurants and private clubs. No kid wants a seated lunch at the Magic Kingdom. This what happens when a country decides that adults are more important than children— and starts catering to (and monetizing) their every whim and demand. The children are always the afterthought, even at their own theme parks.
