Statement by Congressman Darrell Issa Today I’m announcing my enthusiastic endorsement of Supervisor Jim Desmond for Congress - to represent California’s new 48th district. Jim is not only a personal friend, he’s a true patriot, a Navy veteran, a successful businessman, and has a 20-year record of public service. He understands this community, was born and raised here, and will make a terrific Congressman. This decision has been on my mind for a while and I didn’t make it lightly. First, we built the right campaign infrastructure, support has been overwhelming — including from President Trump — and our polling was unmistakable: We would win this race. But after a quarter-century in Congress — and before that, a quarter-century in business — it’s the right time for a new chapter and new challenges. Serving in Congress has been the honor of my life, and every day my teams in Washington and California have worked to deliver for our constituents — like most recently gaining the Congressional Medal of Honor for the Secret Soldier of the Korean War, the great Royce Williams. A point about our campaign on behalf of Captain Williams: For a decade, my team and I waged a nonstop fight for Royce, and we were turned down on his behalf more times than I can remember. But that all changed this year. President Trump made Royce’s award possible, and when I witnessed the First Lady place the Medal of Honor on my hero, it was more than just a job done. It felt like a career accomplishment. There is still work to be done throughout 2026 both in Washington and my beloved current 48th District - and as many days that remain, I’ll dedicate each one of them to the people I serve and the indispensable nation I have sworn to protect as a soldier in the Army and as a proud and grateful Member of the People’s House of Representatives.

I have reviewed this “whistleblower” complaint and the inspector general handling of it. I agree with both inspectors general who have evaluated the matter: the complaint is not credible and the inspectors general and the DNI took the necessary steps to ensure the material has handled and transmitted appropriately in accordance with law. To be frank, it seems like just another effort by the president’s critics in and out of government to undermine policies that they don’t like; it’s definitely not credible allegations of waste, fraud, or abuse.

I have never met a political figure more comfortable in conversation with regular folks. Others could try to serve McDonalds customers but only Donald Trump can pull it off with such natural grace. It’s because he sincerely likes the people and it shows!

@thedailybeast I refuse to vote for any candidate bankrolled by AIPAC and its far-right billionaire donors going forward. Bowman’s loss was the final straw. Those billionaire donors are instrumental in Project 2025. They use AIPAC as a Trojan horse to push the Democratic Party further right.

As a working-class kid in Mt Vernon, I watched my parents strive to give me the best life possible. When I graduated high school on Memorial Field, my mom cried. She never dreamed I would be here. But tonight the voters spoke & I'm proud to be your Democratic Nominee for #NY16

I grew up walking across town to get to the pool because I couldn't afford bus fare. I was the first in my family to graduate high school. I worked in Mount Vernon's Section 8 office. Every day, I wake up ready to do the hard work of improving these communities that raised me.

This race was hard-fought, and hard-won. I am incredibly grateful and proud of the countless unions, elected officials, volunteers, friends, neighbors, and staff who came together for this people-powered campaign. I am humbled by your support, and excited for our future.

Today, Prime Minister Netanyahu and I discussed efforts to secure the release of all hostages held by Hamas. We reviewed moves to increase humanitarian aid for civilians while keeping military pressure on Hamas, and I reiterated Israel’s responsibility to protect civilians.
