The “defund the police” crowd is back in the Valley. They’ve rebranded. Now they wear “Socialism is the Future” shirts and target law enforcement technology instead of law enforcement budgets. Same coalition. Some fringe libertarian and green allies. Same agenda. LPRs read license plates. In public. On public roads. They do not create files on people. They photograph a public item on a public roadway in a public place. Traffic cameras have done that for decades. The only difference is LPRs actually help catch criminals and save lives. Rounds noted the budgetary dysfunction at the state level & stated, “if the state utilized Maricopa County’s forecast procedure, the state budget would have $2.2 billion MORE in the bank right now.” We are proud of our steady, responsible fiscal leadership at Maricopa County.

Economist @_jimrounds provided the @MaricopaCounty Economic & Policy briefing this morning. Jim reaffirmed that the County’s fiscal position is more stable than most government entities, supported by smart fiscal policy in recent years. (1/2)

Tempe has financial woes, cant afford cops. Could have had construction & permanent jobs. Folks from around The Valley, & around the country, were to come & spend tax dollars in Tempe. But biggest opponent pushed Bernie Sanders-style politics to Tempe’s detriment & is now silent
