An associate of mine is conducting some research with QW, and they are looking for GCSE/A-level teachers in Wales to interview on their perceptions of how standards currently work in GCSEs and A levels. Would anyone be happy to take part? Diolch yn fawr. @thomgf

Traditional / Progressive is one of the biggest debates in education But research rarely addresses it head on We found some amazing German data that allows us to test the claims made my both ‘sides’ Feedback welcome!

@DrSamSims Finally, your conclusion, I think is missing the third option (Young's future 3) which is not that the debate is misleading, but that some compromise is required?

@DrSamSims Is it just my browser that makes all the figures and tables disappear, or is there a generalised formatting issue?

@SaysMiss More than a tweet's worth of discussion, but in particular thinking about A)the differences between metaphors, models and theories and how to discuss each of these with students and B)to emphasise that the 'interesting' bits of all of them is when they breakdown and stop working

@thomgf 2 sounds like a great experience, Thom! How has your use of models been refined as a result to recognise it as a positive impact?

My eldest son @DougColtart is currently being held at Harare Central police station on utterly spurious charges. He was arrested this afternoon at Harare Magistrates Court where he was defending @daddyhope . Senior lawyers Beatrice Mtetwa, David Drury & Chris Mhike are with him.

@MChankseliani I don't think the existence of ethical review boards guarantees ethical research, nor the absence of ERBs as necessarily suggesting unethical research. I am new to this, but I would tend to judge the nature of the research based on communication with me prior to the interview.

Colleagues, when you are interviewed by researches from institutions where no strict ethical review boards exist, do you just give an interview, use the opportunity to explain what ethical research means (based on your standards), or not give an interview at all?

@jonniegrande @MrPTse @ghduoblys If we recognise that there is value both in the knowledge and in the way that we go about teaching it I think we would see different approaches which may be less effective at getting knowledge into the students head, but better reflect what we value about the process of education

@jonniegrande @MrPTse @ghduoblys This approach of only starting at the knowledge is why I think we’re seeing an increase in pedagogy is that more transmissive and coercive. They can be seen to be perhaps a logical conclusion of the best way of getting knowledge from the outside into someone’s head.
