An associate of mine is conducting some research with QW, and they are looking for GCSE/A-level teachers in Wales to interview on their perceptions of how standards currently work in GCSEs and A levels. Would anyone be happy to take part? Diolch yn fawr. @thomgf

@cmphysics @ChatPhysics @DocWhalley @Hookean1 @BenRogersEdu @DrDavidBoyce In PE (I think) it is meant to be defined as maximum force *times* speed (F x d/t), which still works out as E/t (work done = force x distance). Could make for an interesting discussion.

@ChatPhysics @DocWhalley @Hookean1 @BenRogersEdu @DrDavidBoyce Going through some exam answers today, a student said that in GCSE PE power is defined as the maximum force an athlete can apply in a kick, or a tennis shot etc, rather than P=E/t. Anyone else had to deal with this?

@MChankseliani I don't think the existence of ethical review boards guarantees ethical research, nor the absence of ERBs as necessarily suggesting unethical research. I am new to this, but I would tend to judge the nature of the research based on communication with me prior to the interview.

Colleagues, when you are interviewed by researches from institutions where no strict ethical review boards exist, do you just give an interview, use the opportunity to explain what ethical research means (based on your standards), or not give an interview at all?

@jonniegrande @MrPTse @ghduoblys If we recognise that there is value both in the knowledge and in the way that we go about teaching it I think we would see different approaches which may be less effective at getting knowledge into the students head, but better reflect what we value about the process of education

@jonniegrande @MrPTse @ghduoblys This approach of only starting at the knowledge is why I think we’re seeing an increase in pedagogy is that more transmissive and coercive. They can be seen to be perhaps a logical conclusion of the best way of getting knowledge from the outside into someone’s head.
