This is another example of why I suspect that the US 'deep state' made the music industry become de-commercialized and recommercialized in a less democratic way. It seems that a working class musician could not come up in the 21st century and be like Kurt Cobain/John Lennon.

Despite some reservations I will be voting Zohran Mamdani for mayor of NYC for the following reasons in order of importance: -Zionists are presently the greatest threat to the United States and the world. They control our congress, our presidency, and much of our legal system. They have primarily directed the endless wars of aggression we have launched since 9/11 and are barreling us towards an apocalyptic war with Iran. Even if Mamdani backs down from a confrontation, and it seems like he already has, the message that you can win in an election in the nerve center of American Zionism without completely kowtowing to these genocidal freaks will encourage more defections. -Landlords are parasites who contribute nothing to society. This is hardly communism, to quote David Ricardo “The interest of the landlords is always opposed to the interest of every other class in the community.” Landlords do not produce value, they are just overhead on the real economy. Rent control is a blunt instrument and a good first step but really the government needs to be building and owning housing. If you go to Vienna you’ll see that rent is cheap because 25% of the housing stock is owned by the government. It’s one of the most beautiful and livable cities in the world. During the New Deal the government built housing in New York. It’s not a coincidence that the total population of Brooklyn is almost unchanged since 1950 but average rent has gone from 15% of income to 50%. Again even if Mamdani backs down from a confrontation with these leeches his victory will help educate more Americans about the existence of our rentier class and what can be done about it. Things will keep getting worse until they are brought to heel. -Mamdani seems to take public safety seriously, supports involuntary commitment, and recognizes that making NYC safe will be the major test of his mayorship. On one hand it’s unfair that homelessness, aggressive behavior, and open air drug use increased so much under neoliberal governance yet the “left” gets blamed for it but it’s true that the American left often espouses embarrassing views on these issues. Seeing people inject heroin on the subway is not “just part of living in a city.” It’s extremely anti social and damaging to communal life. Shanghai is every bit as much of a global city as NYC yet it does not have these problems. These are policy choices. -If Zohran Mamdani wins a lot of annoying people will be mad and a few of them will have public mental breakdowns which will be funny.
