Eskom's turnaround strategy was because that board is led by competent Engineers. Dan, Sputla and Mteto Nyathi. We'd still be in stage 6 loadshedding if we had idiots at the helm of the parastatal.

First week on a job… don’t try to impress. Just observe who gets away with nonsense. That’s the real induction manual.

Glad it’s becoming common knowledge that accountants and finance people often make the worst CEOs for non-financial businesses. Too much obsession with cost cutting. Too little focus on innovation, growth, and building something meaningful. You can’t cut your way to greatness.

@dk_dax The problem isn't the profession but the quality of people themselves that get hired. CPA and CFA qualifications are the criteria for selection of candidates. Also, mostly, in interviews, the best candidates are usually the ones with lower scores. The best don't fit the criteria.

@dk_dax In the U.S., China, Singapore, and here in Malaysia where I’m currently based, top brands are led by people with Master’s degrees in Strategic Leadership or engineering backgrounds—not just CAs.

@bhunlesganga @dk_dax They focus too much on risk and compliance. By risk I mean downside risk, never upside risk.

@SizweLo The current landscape of our industrial capacity is poor because our government policies have failed to understand the needs for successful industry. Simple input cost like energy are too high for us to be competitive globally and there is also a skills mismatch causing shortage

@PaganTech @SizweLo You will find instances of failure in any population it doesn't mean the company failed simply because a CA was running it. Boeing failures were from an engineering standpoint because they started building planes that were unreliable and quality dropped.
