You're in a Research Scientist interview at OpenAI. The interviewer asks: "How would you expand the context length of an LLM from 2K to 128K tokens?" You: "I will fine-tune the model on longer docs with 128K context." Interview over. Here's what you missed:

Hot take: The best age to found your own startup is 30 and over. VCs have a bias for gravitating towards young founders. I think there’s something very alluring about finding strokes of genius much earlier. But having prior careers gives you domain expertise, understanding of good products, hiring judgment, and leadership experience that you didn’t have coming out of college. Here are just a few examples: Jeff Bezos (Amazon, 30) Jensen Huang (Nvidia, 30) Sam Altman (OpenAI, 30) Travis Kalanick (Uber, 33) Jack Ma (Alibaba, 35) Marc Benioff (Salesforce, 35) Dario Amodei (Anthropic, 37) Obviously there are exceptions, especially if you are building a consumer product. It’s cool to be a college dropout and start a generational company. But Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg were successful in spite of dropping out, not because of it.

PayPal's customer service is the worst with AI slop. They used a stupid AI assistant that loops between "can you describe your issue""you can get faster help by talking to an AI assistant""sorry I don't understand""you can find a human via message center" and never a human agent. @PayPal doesn't have email channels either. If you call them, expect spending the first 15 minutes just to verify your identity, and if your call gets redirected, congratlations you have to prove you're yourself again for another 15 minutes. I spent 75 min on the call only to hear a "sorry." Filing a complaint to relevant US regulators rn.

This reads more like a character attack than a balanced critique. Disagreeing with Sam Altman or how OpenAI is structured is completely fair, but calling him a “scammer” on the level of Bernie Madoff or Sam Bankman-Fried without concrete proof weakens the argument. There are real discussions to be had about governance, transparency, and the nonprofit-to-profit transition, but those deserve facts, not assumptions or personal labels.

1. It’s normal that some VC funds make multiple bets in the same space. 2. YC is an accelerator not a typical VC fund so they’re even more justified. 3.Are you sure the two startups are building the exact same products? Often times they’re not but to follow fundamentally different visions with different skillsets.

It’s my first time being invited as an Area Chair for NeurIPS, and I’m truly honored. However, I have to decline the role due to its sanctions policy. NeurIPS’ prosperity comes from the joint efforts of researchers worldwide, and its growth and success have long been supported by sponsorships from some of the sanctioned entities too.

I got robbed by .@kalshi and ex-@cluely team for $100k Here's exactly what happened with receipts I ended up doing marketing for them via .@instinct_inc and the goal was simple: Post content on faceless pages, get paid per view at the agreed RPM. Listen to the guidelines and create the content So I went to work and delivered over 180 million views (majority coming from very viral videos) At the agreed rate of the campaign, that's over $100,000 owed Then the ghosting started .@elamri wouldn’t respond to my DMS for days after i told him about the payout Then suddenly mass rejections start coming through Videos that had been live for weeks generating millions of views, content that was performing exactly as intended, all rejected The reason (according to the kalshi marketing team): “We don’t approve gooner content” What were they referring to though? My video of one of the top 20 sportswomen in the world was deemed as “NSFW” by them and therefore not approved DESPITE the video having 5M+ views and directly promoting them I have 20+ screenshots of conversations of them trying to explain why and Dris refusing to pay me Dris’ own words: "they ideally just want sports content / memes (which was later direction)" Read that again. "LATER DIRECTION" ASIDE from not paying me for my content and calling it “gooner content” They're literally admitting the direction came after I'd already delivered After the views were already counted. After they realized how much they'd owe me Videos with female athletes apparently don't count as sports to them I asked Dris directly "so by this logic female sports doesn't exist?" His response: “tried mentioning this earlier will try to see if sent" It's been 4 weeks of ghosting now I’ve not been paid anything after generating 200M views I've tried handling this privately but it’s genuinely getting to a point Everyone I mentioned is at fault here because I've been ignored, ghosted, and had 100 excuses made on why I couldn't get paid To the Instinct and the Kalshi team: you know what you owe. It’s VERY scummy of you to think you can get away not paying marketers what you owe them Will never be doing business with these guys again

John Carmack(DOOM 之父,马斯克的私人朋友,100 万粉丝)转发了这条推,大量高质量建议涌入。

Here is an xAI story. When I was first hired (low level) by xAI, I was extremely excited. I greatly admired Elon and what Grok could be. I have a pretty cool AI following here on X. Some big names see my stuff, including Elon himself (at the time). Lex, Beff, Andreessen, Aravind, many others. During the interview and onboarding for xAI, they made a *big deal* about wanting people who "take initiative" and think outside the box. Ok... So, some of the biggest names in tech follow me on X. I decided to ask for ideas and feedback on how Grok (then still early at version 2) could be improved. I asked my followers on X for the best "how can we make Grok awesome?" ideas, and was going to collect them (organized by Grok himself) into a big report for my boss(es) and ultimately, Elon. (xAI makes a big deal about how it's a "flat structure" also. You're supposed to be empowered to act on good ideas.) Well, my post got way more attention than I expected - great! Ideas to improve Grok poured in! I built a script to collect and sort all these great ideas to make xAI's core product better. John Carmack (personal friend of Elon, creator of Doom, id software, legend) retweeted it. Carmack has 1M followers. There were so many great ideas on how to improve Grok! I was collecting them and excited. Until....... I woke up the next day to a threatening email from my main supervisor* at xAI, telling me I had messed up, that I was NEVER to ask for ideas to improve Grok ever again, that it wasn't my job (I thought our job was to improve Grok.) They suspended my account on X. They never explained why. It was obviously related to my post about improving Grok. I was told to delete those posts which had gone viral. I had to delete all the hundreds (thousands?) of genuinely good ideas for improving Grok that had poured in by users on X, because it stepped on someone's toes. It made me confused and sad. Incidents like this happened often, where xAI employees would come in full of excitement and enthusiasm, and would have it stomped out by managers who hated ideas. They filled xAI with middle managers and busybodies. It was one of the most DEI and corporate-y places I've ever worked. I came in wanting Elon and xAI to win and left just sad. *That manager is gone, for what it's worth. Everyone I knew at xAI is gone.

I left xAI earlier this week. It was a difficult decision. The past two years have been an intense, fun, and deeply rewarding journey, and I accomplished things I could not have imagined two years ago. Thank you @elonmusk for the opportunity and for everything I learned at xAI. Thank you @Guodzh for the trust you placed in me and for all the days and late nights we worked through together. And thank you to the entire Omni / Imagine team: thank you for your trust, and for growing together with me. It has been an honor, and I am incredibly proud of what we achieved together. I feel fortunate to have had the chance to work with all of you. At xAI, everything feels possible. I had the chance to work with and learn from some of the most exceptional people I have ever met. I was able to explore across domains: from pretraining to post-training, from language models to multimodal, from perception to generation. Joining xAI was one of the best decisions I have ever made. @grok imagine is special to me. Building video generation models, where I started with almost zero prior knowledge, from 0 to No.1, as an IC and as a lead, alongside an extraordinary team, and shipping it as a great product used by millions, all within 6 months, at age 28: I feel proud. But now it’s time for me to move on. I’m burnt out, and I know my happiness is no longer maximized in my current state. It is sad to say goodbye, but it is just the right time for a change. Best wishes to the Imagine team, you are absolutely the best, and you deserve the best. I will cherish all our memories for the rest of my life. For now, I’m taking a break and giving myself time to figure out what comes next. Posted from Hawaii.
