I like to break things in creative ways, preferably adding functionality in the process that the original creator never imagined.

@Fat_Electrician @MetamateDaz It's also pretty trivial for them to borrow against it without having to liquidate. I don't agree with the policies advocating it, but let's not pretend that they have no way to get cash.

I genuinely don't understand people like Bezos and Musk. If I had billions of dollars, I would just start fixing everything. Homeless veterans sleeping on the streets? Not on my watch. Hungry children going to bed with empty stomachs? Hell no. They could be making life better but instead choose to build spaceships and data centers to pump stocks and destroy the planet

It’s been a shit travel day. Delays abound, resulting in a missed connection in ORD (shocker) and resultant itinerary change that will have me, as hobbled as I am in this walking boot, trying to get from B concourse to G concourse in less than 20 minutes in an attempt to catch the last flight of the night to MDT (Harrisburg, PA). If I make the connection, I won’t land until well after midnight. On the bright side, if I am able to make that flight, I’ll get to fly on one of my past employer’s fancy Embraer 175’s for the first time.

Well, that escalated quickly. There’s been a wave of claims by cheaters about Vanguard “bricking” their PCs, so let’s clear that up: Vanguard does not damage hardware or disable your devices. The photo we posted is a picture of cheat hardware devices that are sold explicitly for cheating in VALORANT (not normal PCs or PC components). Through our latest updates, Vanguard now makes those devices worthless for VAL, but does not in any way brick PCs or PC components or PC software. Our latest update enforces standard platform security features, like the Input-Output Memory Management Unit (IOMMU), on accounts identified as using Direct Memory Access (DMA) cheating devices. These protections are already part of modern systems and when enabled, they block DMA cheat devices (such as those shown in the photo) from accessing memory in downstream applications, like our games. If a cheat setup continues attempting to cheat after those protections are enabled, the system may generate hardware faults or instability. This is expected behavior under IOMMU when attempts are made to read protected memory. Disabling IOMMU allows the cheat device to function again, but IOMMU will still be required to play our games. This means the cheat device won’t work with our games, but your PC isn’t “bricked.” We would not, and cannot, impact your PC’s functionality in any other fashion. This functionality only applies to systems attempting to use DMA cheat devices, and players who are not using DMA-based cheat setups are not affected. We’ll keep investing in anti-cheat to protect competitive integrity, and we’ll keep being as transparent as possible about how those systems work.

U.S. President Donald J. Trump has announced via TruthSocial that he will be unable to attend his son, Donald Trump Jr., and his soon to be wife, Bettina Anderson’s wedding this weekend in the Bahamas, citing his reason as, “circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America.” Trump further states in the post, “I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time.”

When they're young we amplify consequences because they may not relate the poor action with the result. As they get older, we shouldn't have to amplify as much because the real consequences are enough. With adult children I still struggle with how much I should help them handle the consequences of poor decisions. Talking about the "why" you have a rule and what you're trying to avoid is much more important than trying to force an impact.

Had an interesting conversation with my 16 yo. Said she feels it's her duty to make me and her dad better people. That taking away electronics as punishment is why my son hates us. She feels that conversation only is a better way to handle rule breaking. And, that taking electronics away makes us, her parents, bad people. I would like to know what the people of X feel. Hopefully I won't ruffle too many feathers with this poll. How do you hold children accountable or give consequences for rule breaking or disrespect?

Putting your phone on airplane mode isn’t pointless, but it’s not much of a safety risk either. In extreme circumstances, it’s possible, but not probable, that signals the phone emits when searching for a tower can bleed into our headsets. I’ve had it happen on the KC-10, but only because it was my own phone in close proximity I hadn’t turned off. There was a slight issue of 5G interfering with the radio altimeter recently. The two work on parts of the frequency spectrum that are very close. That has been mostly resolved by better shielding, but was a threat that needed to be taken seriously. The FCC wants your phone off because 200 phones in the air, searching for signal, can all connect to multiple towers at once & strain the grid. Now throw a couple more jets in the area full of 200 phones, too, and it could be a problem. The FAA looked at eliminating this rule & decided to keep it. At least in part, to keep people from having annoying conversations at a time many people are already aggravated from delays & whatever else. The best reason I’ve found to tell people, though, is that it will rapidly drain your battery, as the phone keeps trying to search for towers to connect to.
David Marcus@BlueBoxDave

So, putting your phone on airplane mode for takeoff and landing has always been nonsense, right? Because there would have had to have been incidents by now, otherwise.

Last year, the city of Austin turned off their Flock cameras as the result of a targeted misinformation campaign. This weekend, for nearly 24 hours, three suspects drove around Austin in stolen vehicles, undetected, conducting a shooting spree at 12 separate locations. They shot multiple people, houses, apartment buildings, businesses, and fire stations. They committed multiple robberies and car thefts during the spree. Despite a full manhunt involving 200 officers, with helicopter and K9 support, they weren't able to locate the suspects, and the spree continued. Luckily, the suspects drove into the Flock-supported city of Manor, TX. Manor is a small city with ~20k residents, and a fraction of Austin's budget. What they do have is modern technology and the ability not to fall victim to misinformation campaigns. After the suspects drove into Manor to continue their shooting spree, Manor PD located them almost immediately. The residents of Manor stayed safe. This is a tale of two cities. I love Austin. I have plenty of friends who live there. I myself almost moved there years ago. I'm glad that the shooting spree is over, but I just wish it never happened.

🚨 Aurora City Council is trying to muzzle @AuroraPD They’ve introduced Resolution R2026-55 that would: ✔️Require City Hall bureaucrats to pre-approve every APD social media post, press release, and briefing. 👨‍🦰 Ban mugshots and suspect names until conviction or guilty plea (unless the City Manager personally approves). 🗣️ Ban any police officer from commenting on legislation without City Council’s prior approval. To dodge 1A violations, they even added a weak little disclaimer that officers can still speak in their “individual capacity”… as long as it’s crystal clear they’re not representing the department. Politicians are trying to silence cops from talking about crime, arrests, and laws that affect public safety…all while pretending it’s about “transparency.” Why are our politicians trying to protect criminals and control the narrative? Tag your neighbors. Email your council members.  citycouncil@auroragov.org
