MLB announces Cubs minor-league RHP Mathew Peters, who is currently on their Arizona Complex League roster, has been suspended for 2024 ACL season after testing positive for Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone, a performance enhancing substance. Peters, 23, was 12th rd pick in 2022.

Alzolay, Neris, Merryweather, Almonte, Smyly figure to be 5 locks for the pen barring a terrible ST. That leaves 3 spots for Leiter, Assad, Wesneski, Cuas, Palencia, Little, Thompson, Rucker, Horn. Smyly/Assad/Wesneski figure to be battling Wicks for 5th SP spot as well.

He could but there are a lot of experienced rotation options + Vanderbilt doesn’t put freshmen on weekends usually unless there aren’t other viable options. Midweek is possible. I think he could be great out of the ‘pen too, though they may not need even more lefties

The Cubs resigning Cody Bellinger to a reasonable and very good contract feels like such a win-win for both sides

@IvyFutures He wants to play for a team wanting to go 6-8 years, imo. Settling would be a loss, for him. Pure and simple.

@tim815 I get the sense you view this as some sort of a “gotcha”, but I never implied Bellinger would walk away from some mega deal to sign with the Cubs. Just that the Cubs and Bellinger coming together on a “very good contract” could be a win-win if he wants to play in Chicago.
