In 1989, the U.S. invaded Panama to seize General Manuel Noriega. Shortly afterwards, it led a coalition to evict Saddam Hussein's forces from Kuwait. Yet to hear certain observers tell it, coalitions only form around rule-bound, virtuous great powers. thecritic.co.uk/the-world-is-n…

Under the rule of Venezuela’s United Socialist Party, a quarter of the nation’s population has fled abroad – proof that the best antidote to socialism is the experience of living under it. There are about the same number of Venezuelans as there are Australians. Imagine the population of Victoria going into voluntary exile to escape the government in Canberra. That is the scale of Maduro’s failure. Trump has called it to a halt. My latest column: theaustralian.com.au/commentary/the…

In my latest column I argue that identity politics and a refusal to critique non-Western dogmas have left the nation ill-equipped to address sectarian hatred. The multicultural chic that nurtures violent Jew-hatred theaustralian.com.au/inquirer/the-g…

'Transnationalism, human rights, climate change, truth telling and treaty. The vocabulary of Australian society is framed by these progressive concepts. Conservative alternatives are thin and unpopular. Labor’s net zero mantra won’t make an iota of difference to the weather. But it has guaranteed a progressive hegemony that its opponents just have not been able to touch.'

Margaret Thatcher said the facts of life are conservative, but the facts of culture seem persistently progressive. Read the full comment: bit.ly/4hWs0RC

Fifty years after Whitlam, Australia’s left dominates culture and politics — climate, human rights, and identity politics now define our institutions. Conservatives never fought back. My latest column: theaustralian.com.au/inquirer/whitl…

‘The notion that Britain is prioritising Warfare over Welfare is absurd. Today, health and welfare combined take up approximately 40 per cent of the UK’s annual budget, while Defence must make do with 4-5 per cent. Disability benefits alone exceed the defence budget.’

My latest piece for @TheCriticMag, "The Folly of Disarmament." Zarah Sultana's glib, clickbait rhetoric does a disservice to the long tradition of serious leftist thought about defence and the working class. thecritic.co.uk/the-folly-of-d…

In America, if you are 20, Donald Trump is your ‘lived experience’ of a conservative. While their teachers bend toward a banal identity politics, Trump has controlled the political discourse since they were in grade 5. MAGA—George Floyd—Covid lockdowns—trans ideology—Greta Thunberg: the world view of the English-speaking young is filtered through them. These men and women will be in power in the 2040s-50s. We need to craft a different lens between now and then. My review of a new book that polishes that lens: theaustralian.com.au/arts/the-great…

When tents appear in university quads they are usually filled with humourless Israelophobes. When Kirk showed up, everyone knew they would be part of a great theatre of democracy – if only for a few hours. My latest column: theaustralian.com.au/inquirer/charl…

Trump does not just want to win the votes of men and women excluded from the coiffured grounds of the academy. He intends to shift American culture by encouraging universities to produce a different kind of citizen. Can it work? My latest article: theaustralian.com.au/inquirer/trump…
