@DrEliDavid So let’s say his Jet uses (say) 10,000 liters (10hr flight) of Jet fuel which would be about 40 tonnes of CO2 (BEIS method). The average car produces around 5 tonnes per year. So his flight is about 8 years of a single car. Not a lifetime which is 80 years….

@GaryLineker Mmm - if there will be no place to burn this coal, and it is indeed coking coal that otherwise would be imported for steel production I don’t really see the issue. Of course steel (and cement) production are both energy intensive and we should find ways to cut them directly!

The new mine that’s been approved in Cumbria will produce coal for the steel industry - and most of the coal will be exported. 4 mins on why the government supports the decision and why others are still trying to stop the mine.
