@ThiaBallerina There are *different* types of inflation: some prices change quickly (like gas) day to day. While others change slowly (like rent) year to year or longer. We combine these to understand how much things cost overall, but really, multiple types (categories) of inflation are at play

Thia is with … 😏✌️💋🔥
Can someone please explain to me in crayon how “inflation keeps going down,” but we continue to live in the most expensive timeline of our lifetime?

Haiti is the only country in the world where descendants of enslaved people were forced to pay reparations to descendants of their masters for generations. Nobody knew exactly how much Haiti paid France — and at what cost to its future — until now. nyti.ms/3MA2C3V

does anyone else notice that when these people talk about “free speech”, it’s almost never about the freedom to challenge power and systemic abuse, and almost always about the freedom to denigrate marginalized people without being criticized for it?

One of the things I have been thinking about since Virgil’s passing and my known crush on @tylerthecreator is just how creatively expansive men get to be professionally. Who are the female equivalents? Who is getting the opps to do music, furniture, fashion and apps at scale?

@MisaPb So, in your analysis, poor people use the subway because you’ve seen black people using the subway? Yes race and poverty are linked but race is not an absolute determining factor for class like your generalization presumes. And then you bother to say you’re not racist…

@lessin The moment we start dancing about a time, that dance encodes race, gender, and other SES biases. Slot scheduled office hours mean everyone has equal access to my time. It isn't perfect. But instead of thinking it is about you, recognize it actually means I don't value JUST you.

@TashP351 Playing devil's advocate here. Don't those paw prints 🐾 look big for a hamster...and the step seems very off, not just for a hamster, but for any small animal I can think of. Looks more so the size of a finger tip. Just asking questions..

My friends daughters hamster has been missing and feared dead for almost 2 weeks now. Last night she forgot to wash up the paint tray after a day of decorating. We now think the hamster may still be alive…

@kelsey_dano @deitosclaudia @abbygov White people can not only speak Spanish but also can be Spanish and Latinx, so clarifying your family is white isn’t the helpful information you think it is.

@brenyyaaa It was a Twitter clout-chase disguised as a modest announcement, boasting about mild accomplishments will always draw the ire of folks, I thought to myself initially 50 is a bit excessive.

@ztsamudzi @drcarlhart This whole article spends a lot of time removing the stigma of substance use whilst simultaneously reinforcing harmful tropes about those who struggle with addiction.

It's not healthy the entire nation is hijacked by the electoral college, a vestige of slavery. It's not normal that the popular vote, which consistently goes for Democrats, is forfeited by this archaic system.

@NYCMayor the pandemic hasn’t ended but you’re enforcing opposite side street parking rules and giving $65 tickets even tho a huge % of the pop is working from home. Each st. has 1/2 a dozen cars double parked from 8:30-10am 🤞🏾for no ticket. Abuse of power.

@MiekoGavia I read a different take on here that Im still thinking about. While starting fires is over the top, celebrating a baby being close to arriving isnt something to be mocked. It's kinda sweet. And if the assigned gender happens to be incorrect, you have an excuse for a future party.

I could never do a gender reveal party because I hate being wrong in public. Imagine putting in so much effort to say “MY BABY IS DEFINITELY A BOY THE GENITALS SAY SO!” and finding out years later that you had raised a girl the entire time. Now you look silly.

Overall, Americans took 9/11 pretty calmly. Notably, there wasn't a mass outbreak of anti-Muslim sentiment and violence, which could all too easily have happened. And while GW Bush was a terrible president, to his credit he tried to calm prejudice, not feed it 2/

So it's 9/11. Hard to remember now how large the terrorist attack loomed in our national psyche; after all, in death toll Covid-19 is already the equivalent of 60 9/11s. But a few thoughts and recollections 1/
