While working families struggle to afford their prescriptions and doctors’ visits, MAGA lawmakers are plotting to gut the healthcare programs that ordinary Americans depend on — all to bankroll an unpopular war with Iran that Donald Trump started and DHS’s cruel mass deportation machine. According to a bombshell new report from Axios, top House Republicans are eyeing massive cuts to federal health programs as "offsets" to fund a budget bill containing up to $200 billion for the Iran war and ICE enforcement. You know — the same ICE that just triggered a government shutdown because Republicans refused to stop throwing billions at it. Let's be crystal clear about what this means: the GOP wants to take health care away from YOU so they can pay for a war that the American people never asked for and never wanted. House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-TX) is already reviving a scheme to gut Affordable Care Act cost-sharing subsidies — a move that the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has confirmed would leave 300,000 more Americans without health insurance and force millions more to pay higher out-of-pocket premiums. All to save the government $30 billion. That's $30 billion that will go straight into funding Trump's military adventurism in the Middle East. Meanwhile, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) had the audacity to dress these cruel cuts up as fighting "fraud and waste and abuse." That's right — the same Republicans who just handed billionaires and corporations a massive tax giveaway are suddenly very concerned about waste. Just not the kind that involves bombing Iran. And it gets worse. While Arrington publicly wrings his hands about the "false narrative" of cutting Medicare, he privately told Axios he'd personally LOVE to cut Medicare payments to hospitals and crack down on Medicare Advantage — policies that would directly harm seniors who depend on those programs. He's just worried about how it looks in an election year. Not about the people it would hurt. About how it looks. On Medicaid, Republicans are already salivating over the chance to strip coverage from vulnerable Americans again — including reviving their disgusting push to ban states from covering undocumented immigrants, ripping away health care from people whose only "crime" is seeking a better life. Some Republicans, however, are nervous about taking such drastic steps that would harm their own constituents tremendously. Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE), when asked if he was worried about these cuts, could only muster "I'll see." That is the sum total of MAGA's empathy for the 300,000 Americans who could lose their health insurance: "I'll see." Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) said it best: "Republicans in Congress want to cut Americans' health care to pay for more war in Iran. Let that sink in." These are the priorities of Trump’s congressional sycophants. Republicans want to take away your health insurance. They want to raise your premiums. They want to kick vulnerable people off Medicaid. And they want to use every single dollar they save to drop bombs on Iran and terrorize immigrant families with ICE raids. This is not a drill. This is not a hypothetical.
