I’m actually pretty pissed at how badly they’ve bungled America 250. First they tried to invite Milli Vanilli and a bunch of other absurdly washed up geriatric one hit wonders. Then when that didn’t work they decided to convert the event into a Trump rally where Trump will talk about himself for 90 minutes. This should have been a massive, raucous celebration of the country and its 250 year history. Now it will be a political rally identical to the ten million other ones we’ve already seen.

If you look hard enough some of Toronto Union Station’s old iconic beige and orange tiling still exists. I can almost smell the Cinnabon.

One of the easiest ways to fall in love with Toronto is to get on a bike and ride across the city, looking at what we are building for the next generation.

Andes virus is serious, but “can spread person-to-person” ≠ “pandemic-capable.” Even the largest outbreak (Epuyén) was self-limited. NEJM investigators noted some “possible inhalation” exposures—but that’s nuance, not evidence of measles-like spread. nytimes.com/2026/05/12/opi…

HANTAVIRUS: Let's start with obvious. Global pandemics in 1918 (influenza) and 2020 (coronavirus) are from viruses easily spread by respiratory contact which is why flu/coronaviruses most of concern for pandemic potential. Hantavirus is an RNA virus in bunyavirus family, can be

I don't think hantavirus will be the next pandemic, but how this incident is being handled shows that absolutely nothing was learned, and the millions of dollars spent on biosecurity think tank, AI slop white paper, navel-gazing has achieved absolutely nothing in terms of real policy and procedure change (although doubtless they will insist that more millions for more years of the same approach will one day payoff). There is almost no substantial improvement between how this was handled in 2026 and how it would have been handled in early 2019. Even the public comms are just as bad. The needle has not moved- at all. This gives me serious doubts if costly infrastructure Far-UVC will ever be deployed at scale in critical locations and makes me more convinced that portable Far-UVC that can be deployed in hot zones might be the only hope. If there is no chance they will have the foresight to take steps before disaster strikes, at least we can have rapidly deployable tools at hand to help stop bad situations from getting worse😕

Youth sports is a quintessential PE story. Take an industry that was never meant to be efficient or maximally profitable, because it is not fundamentally geared toward providing financial value. Financialize it.
More Perfect Union@MorePerfectUS

NEW: Youth sports is now costing parents as much as $25,000 a year. Private equity and corporations are turning a childhood pastime into something only the wealthy can afford. Youth sports has become a $40 billion industry, and the steep costs are crushing American families.
