Follower of Jesus. Like maths, art and music. Georgist, because we should tax land ownership instead of wealth creation.

@rorysutherland Keep things where they are used, especially if that space is otherwise wasted. Makes sense. Better stop typing before I mention georgis... Oh bollocks!

Does anyone know if this brand is good? (I largely bought it to find out whether the fancy packaging might induce my wife to leave it permanently on top of the washing machine as God intended, rather than keeping everything in a stupid cupboard like a mad person).

@TaxLandNotMan I thought George's plan was that LVT would be redistributed to everyone except the owner? That way, if you own as much land as the average person, what you give equals what you receive. Owning land inconveniencess fellow citizens, it doesn't inconvenience the government.

TAX LAND, NOT MAN
TAX LAND, NOT MAN@TaxLandNotMan·
Natural law rewards efficiency. Bureaucracy cultivates corruption. Society needs to be freed, not controlled. Don't call yourself #georgist if you don't advocate the single tax. Socialists want to tax land ownership and redistribute land value to everyone. That's not #georgism.

@ONS If you want to encourage employment, STOP FINING EMPLOYMENT. We fine speeders to stop speeding. We fine cigarettes to stop smoking. So... what happens when we fine work, trade and profit? Tax people for what they take from the world, not what they add, i.e. #Georgism

1,012,000 young people aged 16-24 years in the UK were not in education, employment or training (NEET) in Jan-Mar 2026, up from 957,000 in Oct-Dec 2025. This was driven by greater numbers of young people no longer looking for work. Read the article ➡️ ons.gov.uk/employmentandl…

Over 1 million young people not in education, employment or training (NEET). That's 1 in 7. Labour has destroyed over 300,000 jobs since they took office - and young people are hardest hit in a tough jobs market. This is a disaster for a generation of young people.

@ItsLulu_7 I think the opposite is true. Monopoly was invented by a georgist to show that private ownership, not of capital, but of land, is to blame for our massive inequality. The solution is georgism, the purest form of capitalism.

@llewellynsteven @garyseconomics Georgism would solve those problems. They are caused by 2 distortions on the market that skew negotiation in employers' favour: 1. Work, profits, trade and companies are taxed, so there are very few jobs on offer. 2. The landowners own everyone else, so you *have* to work.

@timcrinion @garyseconomics Georgism is interesting, but it isn’t a “perfect solution” to the concentration of billionaire wealth. Land value tax targets land rents, not huge holdings in equities, private companies, trusts, funds, intellectual property, or inherited financial assets.

@BitcoinMicropig @PeterMcCormack @garyseconomics The free market is great for man-made products, but not for land. When all the land is owned, its owners own everyone else. Man-made things have been getting cheaper since the Industrial Revolution. It's the cost of land that is going through the roof.

@rorysutherland @HomelessEconomy @larsiusprime Why would a land value tax reduce builder's profits? Agree it would be a nightmare to value everyone's land separately. A better solution would be to estimate 2 flat values per acre (1 with planning permission, 1 without) for each region of the country. Simple, no loopholes.

@SavidDacks88 @garyseconomics I agree than wealth is not always zero-sum. But land is. Me owning more land means everyone else has less. No one made land. That's why all taxes on man-made things should be replaced by a land value tax.

This is so absurd. To imply that others are poor because someone else is rich is the dumbest concept. It is not a fixed pie. You’re being robbed by your govt. The wealthy have given more to society via jobs and downstream tax revenue then these retards who are bootlicker for big govt

@llewellynsteven @garyseconomics Because taxing them 2% per year doesn't mean they have 98% next year. Their wealth is in the form of assets that give the owner annual returns. If those returns are also 2%, the assets might collapse in value. There is a perfect solution, but Gary has not mentioned it: Georgism.

@garyseconomics I don't understand how ordinary people can be against taxing the super-rich more. If you actually watched this, how can you be against taxing people with more than $100m in assets 2%?

@garyseconomics Why not "the economist who poor people like"? An economist who wants to abolish all wealth would be feared by billionaires. I encourage Gary to read about zero-sum games, and georgism, to truly help poor people, and scare the right kinds of rich people.

@r_georgism @henryrude I would argue that all natural finite resources come from land, so by directly taxing land we would indirectly tax other natural resources too.
