If you've ever seen Bernanke or Yellen speak--and they are paid eye-watering sums per speech--you'd know they have no inside baseball to give. They are intelligent people who give their own opinions, but the idea that Kevin Warsh is tipping off geriatric Druck so he can pump a bit more money out of the market is very misguided. Famously, some of these consultants have been totally wrong about what would happen when they do give opinions! The world is filled with grift and insider trading. But this isn't really a good example of that.

@timewalkcapital @EpsilonTheory I think he was expressing disappointment that Druck (considered a GOAT) is resorting to Bernanke-Citadel deal. None of that should be allowed.

Druck paid Kevin Warsh $10 million in "consulting fees" last year? LOOOL. Nothing matters. "After leaving the Fed, he joined the investment firm of billionaire Stanley Druckenmiller, where he earned more than $10 million in consulting fees last year." wsj.com/finance/invest…

Could not be stated more truthfully Even though I made “good money” as a W2 wagie in my early 30s, it felt like I had a baby sitter It felt emasculating. Frankly I’d rather work for myself for half the money Fortunately I figured out how to do better then that
Murray Hill Guy@MurrayHillGuy1

The most important struggle facing any guy entering his thirties and working a white collar wagie job is the ceaseless fight against the crushing of your soul and the hollowing out of your zest for life

This is true of the median left wing Twitter user. I think the average person in ten years will be fine with UBI. The new tech of the last decade—short for video, reality tv, sports gambling, social media, legal weed—will do the trick. But there will be a lot of deaths of despair along the way as the main source of meaning and structure left in American life (a job) is stripped away.

“UBI” is obviously nowhere near the panacea many of you seem to think it is. The median left-leaning Westerner isn’t angry at Elon Musk because he can buy a million times more groceries than them. They aren’t upset with Palantir because Peter Thiel can afford to eat a thousand burgers to their one. This whole thing is in large part post-material. It’s the hierarchy & subordination they’re uncomfortable with. They feel their dignity is being trampled and their autonomy progressively diminished – rightly or wrongly they feel politically disenfranchised and stripped of a say over the future. Offering a guaranteed food budget and a pod to spend the night in return for further disempowerment is incredibly tone-deaf and should be expected to provoke more, not less, outrage.
keysmashbandit@keysmashbandit

Actually this is correct and I'd go further. Beyond PR, the moral move is for big labs to start heavily investing in UBI lobbyists, thinktanks, whatever, to mitigate the risk of economic upheaval. A better world is possible!

@maxdubler Well sure it makes it more expensive, but people like the west village architecturally, and a lot of new yorkers benefit from hanging out there. Would we really be better off if we built a bunch of pencil skyscrapers instead of the beautiful brownstones on West 11th?

Manhattan's West Village is the poster child for how historically preserving the buildings in high-demand neighborhoods eventually displaces all but the richest people. Case in point: a mansion created from two adjacent townhomes will sell for more than SEVENTY MILLION DOLLARS.

I support the ethics committee’s investigation and believe Eric Swalwell is no longer fit to be a Member of Congress. He should be expelled from Congress. I want to be clear: I had no knowledge of the allegations of assault, harassment, and predatory behavior against Eric Swalwell. I trusted someone who I believed was a friend, but it is now clear that he is not the person I thought I knew. The women who have come forward have shown courage. They deserve to be believed, to be supported, and to see justice served.

@WestsideLAGuy The question is, more difficult for who? Hardly anyone in either cohort could replicate the other's success given a life re-do.

I said this before but will say it again because people don’t get this. Getting into an elite quant firm such as Jane Street or HRT is more difficult than being a 2nd round NFL draft pick. Period. End of discussion.
jay@jay_drainjr

HRT’s 2015 winter internship might be the greatest intern class of all time. 4 of the 10 have gone on to build companies worth over $80B combined Jeff Yan, Hyperliquid ($40B FDV) Alexandr Wang, Scale AI ($29B) Scott Wu, Cognition ($10.2B) Jesse Zhang, Decagon ($4.5B)

This type of techno optimism drives me crazy. The problem isn’t that palantir isn’t in every telescreen or whatever. The problem is that the government doesn’t care about enforcing laws that benefit the average guy. Your whole thing used to be that Victorian England was safe and pleasant, and it wasn’t because of their technology!

Mental model: If there's a credential with a label attached, the less qualified people with the credential will identify more with the label. Ex: Less accomplished and less capable MDs, PhDs, and Ed.Ds will be more likely to demand you call them "doctor" or list their degrees.
