The pensioners aren’t the problem, if you want me as a young person to be more angry at pensioners getting a £500 pay lift on a measly £12k after a life time of work, than those who have never worked a day getting a £6000 boost, earning more in benefits than I do working. Speaking on this topic tomorrow and several more times this year in Oxfordshire. The imposition of the 1549 Prayer Book by the Crown under Edward VI provoked the West Country Rising which spilled over into Oxfordshire and the midlands. In retaliation the Crown executed priests.

Opponents of non-means tested state pension claim that those who paid tax during their working lives are entitled to this state handout. But by that logic, wealthy working age taxpayers should be allowed to claim Universal Credit. The welfare state is based on high earners paying a lot of tax while not being entitled to benefits. Why should this only apply to under the 67s?

@BenGrahamUK @BruvverEccles The Crown pillaged the monasteries and parish churches, took their lands and income. We have a church linked to Parliament and the monarchy, neither will pay anything towards it but still have influence over it, at least in law.

For over 1,400 years Britain has been shaped by Christianity yet today many of our churches are left to rot. This isn’t just neglect, it’s a failure of priorities. These buildings represent our history, our culture, and our national identity. We should be investing in protecting what built this country, not watching it quietly decay.
