Guardian writer. MPN patient. Just trying to get through the day without cocking up, and drink as many hot drinks as possible in the process.

It’s five years since I was diagnosed with an incurable blood cancer. I wrote a big piece for Saturday magazine about the worst year of my life - terror, grief, miscarriage - and how it has led to some of the happiest theguardian.com/society/2023/a…

I’ve just been into the city centre to pick up a friend and his young son who were completely stranded due to the issues at Lime Street. I’m aware that there’s been a major incident and the resources of the emergency services will obviously be stretched, but the situation at Lime Street and the gridlock of traffic all around the city centre with zero control is very, very dangerous.

@RMTunion Liverpool Lime Street closed to passengers. We've known this would be the demand for a month. Emblematic of our disgusting national train failure. Merseyrail on the way up a disgrace too

@timjonze Like lots of folk, I only knew him on here but counted him as a friend and felt his loss. Are there plans to publish the book? I’d really like to read it.

My little obit for James McMahon – a funny, creative, passionate and occasionally maddening friend who I had an absolute blast with in my early NME days. RIP Jam x theguardian.com/music/2024/nov…

50 years ago this month, Kraftwerk’s Autobahn changed pop music forever. I drove from Bonn to Hamburg to capture the road's sights and sounds – and work out why nobody in Dusseldorf seemed bothered about the band (and yes this WAS a dream commission!) theguardian.com/music/2024/nov…

@DSProudfoot @LeBeaujolaisltd Thanks so much Douglas - I’ll look forward to visiting there again, had a nice vibe (and if Barry Miles says it’s soho then it’s soho I guess!)

Bravo, @timjonze, for this wistful exploration of contemporary Soho's fading but still louche charms. I was particularly chuffed that he included my own dining club, @LeBeaujolaisltd, even though it technically located outside the sacred precinct. #Soho

@VisitDusseldorf Nice! Well I’d like to come back as I loved Dusseldorf. Also - is the traffic cone outside the old Kling Klang a Kraftwerk reference or just a traffic cone?

@timjonze Yes, it does exist. It started in 2018, following the Tour de France open-air concert in 2017. In the same year, we presented the tour at the Music Tourism Convention in Liverpool. Since then, it has regularly sold out. The guides, Michael and Sven, are local music book authors.

@timjonze Excellent stuff. Very much enjoyed all that detail. Not taking the Mickey but am now tempted to pitch ‘A road trip like no other’: my epic journey on The Divine Comedy’s National Express. What could go wrong?
