My colleagues and I have tried seven times to fund TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard while we negotiate how to rein in ICE, but Republicans blocked it every single time.

Democrats want to open TSA. Republicans are refusing because they want to attach ICE funding.

We are enthusiastically willing to pay TSA workers today, and we will keep trying, but the sticking point is that Republicans want to attach ICE funding to it. We are not in agreement about ICE, but I don’t think workers and travelers should have to wait for an ICE deal.

We can fund FEMA.
We can fund CISA.
We can fund the Coast Guard.
Then we can talk through our differences on reining in the tactics of ICE and CBP to better protect Americans.
I hope my colleagues support this approach the next time it comes up for a vote.
