Okay, let's do this properly...a thread of golden era uptempo UK cuts
I know most of my European people know all/most of these - but maybe some of my US/Canadian people etc might appreciate!
UK people add on!
gotta start with the obvious one...

@PaulDJStepOne @AM76Design I’ve not heard that one for well over 30 years!Always remember that blend of Chuck D and The Pasadenas! There were loads of interesting bootlegs doing the rounds back then mostly knocked up on 4 track portastudios. Do you remember that Richie Rich’s Scam 12?
English

@PaulDJStepOne @AM76Design I think a lot of it can be traced back to Double D & Steinski’s ‘Lessons’. Was having a similar convo the other day about how Coldcut’s ‘Say Kids’ led to a load of those cut and paste records coming out and creeping into regular chart records.
English

This in particular is a banger that seems a bit overlooked/forgotten.
Got to #14 but not come across on it on any old radio tapes.
Maybe it was bigger in the UK than US - maybe @DanteRoss @SheckyGreen or @DjMightyMi can confirm?

English

@nappa72 @gordonshumwhey @PaulDJStepOne @DanteRoss @SheckyGreen @DjMightyMi The CJ remix of Roxanne Shante’s ‘Live On Stage’ was one of the worst!
English

@gordonshumwhey @PaulDJStepOne @DanteRoss @SheckyGreen @DjMightyMi And there was a lot of them! All done by the same few producers! The 12's weren't too bad as you'd get more content! But the 7's always had the trash uk remixes on, Norman cook was another one! Stetsasonic's Africa has an awful remix by him on the UK 7!
English

@nappa72 @gordonshumwhey @PaulDJStepOne @DanteRoss @SheckyGreen @DjMightyMi Ahh, the Principal was soo dope, such a shame he disowned his talent when he got all holy and that (from what I’ve heard!)
English

@gordonshumwhey @PaulDJStepOne @DanteRoss @SheckyGreen @DjMightyMi I could list so many and they are all trash! But there was one uk producer who was super dope called The Principal who was in a UK called Caveman who were signed to Profile, He done a couple worth checking Black sheep's Try counting sheep and Run DMC's Oh whatcha gonna do!
English

@gordonshumwhey @PaulDJStepOne @DanteRoss @SheckyGreen @DjMightyMi CJ was considered one of the UK's top scratch DJs for a minute around 87 or so. That MAARS record obvs got him through the door when every US joint was getting a UK remix.
English

@PaulDJStepOne Those 2 RPM 12s were pretty decent, and that Jaz Hip Jap comp had some good moments. Also DJ Krush's Strictly Turntablized had some joints.
English

If you've voted "good" feel free to share any recommendations (that aren't by DJ Shadow + still sound good when you aren't high in the mid 90s)

@RandomRan__ @djmk Has it not occurred to you there was a reason Nas was able to have that era's elite producers fighting to get a spot on his debut. After that BBQ verse, the talk was this kid was the second coming of Rakim!
English

@DJSarahLove Been saying this! Rappers are scared to jump on a beat over 90bpm these days. Don’t get me wrong, I like a lot of slow stuff but still, I’m not gonna be playing it out!
English

@FARMABEATS @JazzT71 Loads I could mention but @oliversuddenuk is definitely a contender. Dude is a living ambassador for hip hop, does so much for the scene and is totally humble about it.

@RAtheRuggedMan This video warmed my heart (stick with it till the 4m30 point) youtube.com/watch?v=mH4v8b…

@djshorty79 @BobaFatt I’ve been planning on going back and rewatching BCS then BB and then El Camino. Reckon I’ll probably be done by Christmas!

Some of that 90s rap I'm so fond of. Such a clever idea, stealing all the currently popular beats for a mash up. 'You ain't even half the man your mum was'.
