@mehulmpt @fireship_dev I think this is a valid point which I often think when people quote how much of the web is using Wordpress. How many popular/useful sites are made in Wordpress and JQuery? Who is making enterprise software and who is just making their hobby site no-one looks at.

@fireship_dev I'd like to see jQuery stat against the top 5-10% of websites by traffic. It's nice to say that 75% of the web still uses it, but how much of that web code is even updated in the last 10 years

this is a safe space so no arguing — what’s a song you despise to a comical degree? no holiday music or “anything by so-and-so” or “all music of this genre”, only real replies. mine is “bitter sweet symphony” by the verve bc i think the orchestral part is repetitive and tacky

@Swizec I also saw a wonderful bit of advice about teaching people (especially young people) that they should be working joyfully instead of working hard. Learning what brings you joy takes maturity. Work life balance is exactly that, learning what makes life joyful, maybe thats work

Unpopular opinion: Telling young people to work-life balance is actively harmful. Your 20’s are the best time to grind. You have lots of energy and few responsibilities. a good 20’s grind creates the space to chill in your 30’s and beyond

@Swizec The biggest problem with what you're saying here is a lot of 20 year olds don't really understand the difference between grind (which is presumably what you see as putting the effort into solidifying your career) and being exploited by employers because they don't have boundaries

This is (likely) historically accurate though. The first Europeans were dark skinned, and it's generally believed that light skin didn't reach Europe fairly recently.

@tiny_m @mezoliad @farahkanaan The impasse has lots to do with Israel’s neighbours wanting to wipe Israel out but lacking the capacity. Same in 1967, 1973 etc. Rather than keep trying, they’d be better off asking ‘since Israel exists and will continue to, how can we maximise Palestinians’ security/prosperity?’

@line_pencil @mezoliad @farahkanaan This is a very one sided view of why those conflicts took place and also stems from the position of assuming what happened in '48 was just in the first place. So obviously to many could not be considered unprovoked.

@tiny_m @mezoliad @farahkanaan If you look back at the conflicts since 1948, they’ve basically all been started by people who refuse to accept the verdict of 1948.

@line_pencil @mezoliad @farahkanaan I think it is very relevant now because in my view if people cannot acknowledge the harm done in the making of that decision in the past then they cannot move past the attitude shown here that it was a competition to see who 'won'. It will always lead to more anger and violence

@tiny_m @mezoliad @farahkanaan you can argue Britain/others should have behaved differently in 1948. But again, Zionists would have fought for Israel regardless. And none.of it is that relevant now. Israel exists. it won in 1948. A big part of the problem is that many neighbours still haven't accepted that.

@line_pencil @mezoliad @farahkanaan to be very clear because I know people find this conversation upsetting I am in no way suggesting the removal of Israel as part of acknowledging the fact it hasn't worked out well. But I do feel if we aren't honest about the problem then there is no way to an honest solution

@mezoliad @farahkanaan I guess we just have to agree to disagree here about whether that's true. In my opinion which isn't worth much it would have been healthier to persuade them that wasn't the case than ship the problem off to someone else, because all we did was recreate the exact same problem.

@tiny_m @farahkanaan This perspective runs into the common issue that the voices of Jewish people (those that were left anyway) are being retrospectively silenced. As if their views don’t matter. Clearly Europe was no longer an option for most of them and I understand that 100%.
