Or, hear me out. Instead of this (which is not anywhere near the point of the movie) he could have just adapted The Odyssey without shoe horning in a bunch of feminist hero deconstruction.
Then, he could have gotten someone talented to write the dialogue, cast the characters correctly, not color graded it in piss and then tried writing a screen play that was coherent.
What a crazy idea, right?

IMHO, a lot of conservatives are missing the Biblical forest for the woke trees in Nolan's Odyssey. Yes, the casting of Elliot Page is silly and egregious. But here's the thing: Nolan's "The Odyssey" is an apologia for Christian morality poured into a Greek vase.
The entire movie is rooted in what Nolan terms "Zeus' law." That law is: "Treat others as you would want to be treated, because anyone might be a god." Now, clearly, there's nothing like that in Greek mythology. It's not implicit in Homer. It's a direct rip from Biblical morality, substituting "because anyone might be a god" for "because man was made in the image of God."
Nolan then takes this rule and uses it as his moral glue: the idea is that Odysseus, in utilizing the Trojan Horse, violated Zeus' law and led to full-scale slaughter. That sin has led to the unleashing of broader globalized sin (the "sea peoples" who don't respect Zeus' law and are invading surrounding areas). This is a highly Biblical message: that sin is infectious, and that sin also affects the world at large, not just the sinner.
Odysseus has sinned, and he must atone for that sin through self-imposed exile. He must also sacrifice his own aspirations to restore the possibility of a moral universe: because he has unleashed catastrophic violence and violation of Zeus' law -- manifest in the suitors' cynical use of Zeus' law to eat Penelope out of house and home -- he must violate Zeus' law one last time and then accept the penalty, which is exile.
This is a not only a movie that will make millions of people go read classical literature again. It also reinforces the idea that violation of the Golden Rule has disastrous consequences.
I dunno. I'd consider that, on balance, a large-scale win for civilizational values, when weighed against the woke casting of Elliot Page or the dumbass discussion over whether Lupita Nyongo is good-looking enough (she is, and for the record Diane Kruger is German, not Greek).

@DiscussingFilm Redditors have confirmed this movie has empty seats showing full seated online to boost the numbers. Who knows how true this is with the boycott… probably fake numbers because they made the movie woke and needed an agenda.

@SANCTEAM @Toader_The_Toad @mrjinjin2612 There's WAY more non superhero comic books than there are superhero comics. Image, Dark horse and other publishers put out thousands of of them compared to their cape stuff. Even DC puts out non cape stuff with imprints like VERTIGO.
English

@Toader_The_Toad @mrjinjin2612 Because that's what publishers pivoted heavily to. Marvel and dc used to publish romance comics at one point. There are exceptions like image comics and publishers like them having a bit more variety in what they publish but for the most part it's mostly cape stuff

@CleoLovesLucie MJ being a reporter is not a new thing. She was a reporter in the original ultimate Spider-Man comics and the ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. Also do we have a problem with Vicki Vale, Linda Park and Iris West?
English

I actually don't fully mind them changing MJ from an actress to an artist, definitely better than just turning her into a Lois Lane ripoff lmao

@PrimeChaos__ @DiscussingFilm You chuds whine and rant when black stories (original or otherwise) are told no matter what. Not to mention whitewashing has existed since the beginning of Hollywood yet you chuds say nothing about it.
English

@DiscussingFilm I pray it flops. I'm not seeing this trash. Maybe they should stop attacking white culture. Just a thought..

@MyTimeToShineH Treating their talent, the people whos work built this company, like trash.
That mistake lead to to the creation of one of their biggest rivals

@LeesiBB @DiscussingFilm Plenty of good original movies and fresh stories come out all the time.

@DiscussingFilm cinema is not dead, we just want good original stuff or fresh stuff and nolan gets that

Christopher Nolan says there’s been a tendency in media for decades to say that cinema is dying when it isn’t true.
“I think there are a lot of different ways to interest people in coming to the movies.
This summer you’ve seen movies like ‘Backrooms’ and ‘Obsession’ that are made by young filmmakers connecting with their audience. Our biggest segment of people who come to the movies are young people and it always has been.”

@99POV99 @DiscussingFilm You do realize OBSESSION has a in your face message right?

@DiscussingFilm Almost as if people WILL spend their money if the movie is entertaining and not a message driven dumpster fire.

The series follows two Chicago homicide detectives who work in cases involving super powers.

@CompulsionGames Good Games with good stories, NO woke crap in them. If YOU guys can give a word on that, gamers WILL support YOU. If NOT, well than we probably wont see each other ever again. Youre choice to stay and work or leave heads down.🙄🤔

@rey_mafias @Weels282 @ParapastaCD I will never never never read an American comic because or the bullshit you need to go through to start. With most manga there's chapter 1 and start there.
English

@Chalice_Knight7 @ParapastaCD Tell me you don't read comics without telling me you don't read comics
English

@ParapastaCD I never got the hype around American comics… they are crap and utterly ugly. And then I look over to my French neighbours and see classic French comics and they are stunning, drawn with grace and aesthetic and very well build stories
English

@NNook0480757 It may shock you, but there's way more non superhero comics than there are superheros. They are very easy to find and there's other publishers outside of marvel and DC

English

The decline in popularity of American comics is actually very interesting because they were the one who shot themselves on the foot by just constantly making heroes comics to the point it became oversaturated
Imagine if that happened to manga instead?

English

@WashingtonHoca @NNook0480757 @otakunateshow American comics are doing very well, and there's thousands of non superhero comics outside of marvel and DC

English

@NNook0480757 @otakunateshow I’d argue another reason why American comics failed is because it was much harder to get into then Manga is. Manga is much more linear and episodic based than most American comics who’s characters go back to the pre war era and with 18 different versions
