@Fred_the_Needle@mellon_heads Simon Tolkien is an absolute retard. He's the guy who said he wanted Rings of Power to be a Breaking Bad / Walter White story...
@mellon_heads If my Dad had been totally against an idea, there’s no way, I’d do the complete opposite of his wishes as soon as he died.
That is so low.
🚨 BREAKING 🚨
Peter Jackson reveals that him and his brain trust are in negotiation talks with the Tolkien Estate to license more rights from Tolkien’s works.
"Christopher Tolkien sort of edited and finished other Tolkien books [such as] Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, there's a lot more Tolkien writing, which would actually make great movies that were subsequently edited by Christopher but he absolutely would not let any, the mere idea of filming.
Those rights have never been available but Christopher passed away 2 or 3 years ago now and the younger Tolkien is running the estate now and they're much more open to talking
Combination of Warner’s and us have been talking to some of the younger Tolkien members about the possibility of actually licensing some of the rights to the other books. It would be nice to get away from the appendices and get something a bit more meaty."
What would be the very first adaptation you would like to see if Warner Bros had the full rights to Tolkiens work?
I’m fine with this but the costs involved in doing so should be backed by the government. It’s no “free”, if a small-ish studio releases a game and it flops badly or if the studio or publisher is in a bad financial state and going under, they have limited runway and resources to facilitate this. This is the government demanding they spend funds they may not have, during likely difficult times. It puts an even greater burden on failure.
California lawmakers took a big step for video game players on May 14, 2026.
A group in the state Assembly voted to advance bill AB 1921, meaning the full Assembly will now vote on it soon.
The bill, named the Protect Our Games Act, was introduced by Assemblymember Chris Ward. It sets clear rules for video game companies that sell games connected to online servers.
If it becomes law, it would apply only to new games sold after January 1, 2027.
>Before shutting down servers, companies must notify players at least 60 days in advance.
>They must then provide one of three options:
-an offline version playable forever
-a free patch allowing play without the company’s servers
-or a full refund.
Many companies currently shut down servers and make paid games unplayable. This bill aims to stop that.
The Stop Killing Games campaign supported the bill, while the Entertainment Software Association opposed it, arguing the rules would hurt new game development. The opposition failed in the committee vote.
@_BTPC_@Pirat_Nation This legislation do not tell devs "what kind of games to make". To comply the only thing they'd need is to publish latest development build.
@Stoobiedooda@Pirat_Nation I read the entire thing. I know exactly what the legislation says.
Not sure why you thought you had to be such a cunt about it. Please fuck off.
Spoken like a person who didn't read a bit of that legislation.
It doesn't tell them how to make games. It just says you can't kill that shit people paid for 2 months after it's release because it didn't get the reach you wanted.
They already do all that shit you said in their EULA that you don't read either.
@Pirat_Nation I know it’s unpopular, but I’m entirely against the government telling game devs how to make games.
To me, it’s no different than Anita Sarkeesian trying to control the creative process.
Christopher Nolan is defending the historical accuracy of the armor in #TheOdyssey:
“There are Mycenaean daggers that are blackened bronze. The theory is they probably could have blackened bronze in those days. You take bronze, you add more gold and silver to it and then use sulfur… With Agamemnon, Ellen [Mirojnick], our costume designer, is trying to communicate how elevated he is relative to everyone else. You do that through materials that would be very expensive.” (via Time)

Subnautica 2 is now out in Early Access. Just before launch, someone leaked an unfinished version of the game online.
A developer from the studio replied on Discord after the person who leaked it admitted doing so.
The developer wrote, “It took some doing but this guy self-reported. Thanks for pirating a game that I’ve spent years working on.
I’m disappointed that you’d do that when it’s kind of how we make our living. I hope you rethink your life choices.”
The company says the leaked copies are not complete, are not the final game, may have problems or risks, and do not include the latest updates
@Variety I'm embarrassed to admit I've seen The Devil Wears Prada. Wives...right?
I cannot remember this line being part of the movie. In fact I barely remember the movie at all.
Anne Hathaway tells Emily Blunt during their 2023 “Actors on Actors” conversation that her “when I am hungry, I eat a cube of cheese” line in “The Devil Wears Prada” is one of “the most iconic lines in cinema history.”
@_ChaoticGood42@TropicalViking0@Variety Most of them where white and Helen was specifically described as white. Read a book. There are plenty of lighter skinned Greeks and have always been.
Elon Musk is bashing Christopher Nolan for #TheOdyssey casting, alleging the director cast Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy because he “wants the awards.”
In additional X posts, Musk re-tweeted posts that mocked Elliot Page’s masculinity and claimed that Nolan was stomping all over Homer’s grave because of his casting choices.

Reddit is testing a new feature that may prevent some users from accessing Reddit on mobile web browsers unless they download the app.
Affected users report seeing a full-screen message asking them to open or install the app before continuing to browse.
Reddit says the test affects only a small number of frequent mobile users and claims the app provides a better and more personalized experience.
Reddit is getting backlash due to making the mobile website harder to use to drive app downloads, boosting advertising and user tracking.

@Variety I have to agree with this casting is kind of a joke, but I still have faith in Christopher Nolan because he is the goat! Achilles better not be Ellen Paige though or I’m going to actually be a little pissed
From the team that brought you “Why is Snow White Latina?,” “Why are there Black people in ‘The Rings of Power’?,” and “Star Wars has gone woke” comes the latest online onslaught against the diverse cast of “The Odyssey.”
These culture warriors have been led to battle by their own personal Agamemnon, Elon Musk.
