@themellowing I hear you. It will pass. The flame in your heart won’t be extinguished. You will eventually transmute the darkness into light & rise from the flames. You are an alchemist. Have faith in yourself & the universe will support you.

@Prophet_Poe This is the most amazing piece of writing I’ve come across in years. I really felt it. So much so, I read it out to my husband. He was impressed too. You have an amazing talent!

The radiator coughed all night like an old man drowning in bourbon, metal throat full of winter.
I lay there counting sirens through nicotine curtains, watching headlights drag themselves across the ceiling like tired ghosts.
The apartment smelled like wet denim, burnt coffee, and rain climbing in through a cracked window frame.
Everything sweated.
The walls, the pipes, my palms.
Even the clock sounded humid, tickin’ like a boot heel down a hospital hallway.
I kept your memory in the pocket of my hoodie next to loose change and lint, rubbed thin from touch.
Funny thing about grief.
It ain’t loud at first.
It hums.
Like fluorescent lights above a gas station at 3am.
Like bees trapped inside a beer can.
Outside, the city chewed its own teeth.
Subway brakes screamed bloody murder, dumpsters slammed shut like bad decisions.
And somewhere a couple fought
with the kind of silence that only comes after years.
I walked six blocks for cigarettes, I didn’t even want.
Cold air split my lips open.
Street puddles held broken neon
pink, blue, buzzing electric halos.
A kid in a stained apron dragged trash bags through the alley while humming something soft and off-key, like he still believed mornings mattered.
My hands smelled like rusted coins
and smoke after that.
I remember because I pressed them
against my face trying to hold myself together.
Skin rough as old notebook paper.
Knuckles split white.
Heart beating crooked.
Some nights, I swear, loneliness
has a texture.
Like sleeping in wool soaked with rain.
Like biting down on foil.
Like elevator music in an empty building.
And man.
I've been carrying myself around like a body nobody claimed.
Dragging these bones room to room, trying not to look too closely at the mirrors.
But dawn still came.
Thin and ugly.
Gray dishwater light leaking across the floorboards.
The neighbor upstairs coughing alive.
Coffee beginning somewhere.
Birds scratching their tiny prayers
into the fire escape.
And for one second,
Just one.
The whole rotten world smelled clean.
And I swear,
I could see a saint inside these sinners clothes.

@AuthorGFAllen I’m sure I will. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I’ll let you know.

@AuthorGFAllen Great thank you. I never thought to look in the audio books. I’m new to e-reading. I’m old school, but my eyes aren’t what they used to be. I’ve saved it. I’m just figuring out how to add payment to iBooks, which my husband previously dealt with, then I’ll buy it.
English

@AuthorGFAllen I quite like the look of yours. But I don’t do kindle or Amazon. I’ve just started using Apple iBooks, can’t find it on there. I like fantasy, or historic fantasy but nothing too sci-fi. I’m only just finding the time to read again after years, & am looking for new ideas.

@libriscent It’s called echolalia. I do it. My grandson used to mimic the accents on the kids tv programmes too.

@ChadWeather @jgsmuzzy I probably had that much on my inside window ledges! Don’t know if I was more directly under it in Hollinwood, than you, but it certainly seemed like more as I watched a sheet of water obliterate everything for good 15-20 mins.
English

@jgsmuzzy Impressive. Only 1.4mm here from it. Only caught the edge.

@dineen20dineen My grandma darned socks, cardigans, jumpers. Everything! And when elbows couldn’t be darned anymore, they got leather elbow patches sewn over them. I still have the tins of buttons & some original 1960s darning wool.

@SamRaincock Can’t blame you. I have the heating on. It is cold tonight.

@SamRaincock Love hedgehogs. I once had a pair nesting under an old rabbit hutch. Very noisy when mating! They were picking up foil crisp packets that had blown in under the shrubs & using them to insulate their nest. Bumbling around with them covering their eyes. Hilarious! Proper wombles!
