I see our European "Allies" don't know the rules of war. DoD Law of War Manual section 5.6 MILITARY OBJECTIVES along with broader international humanitarian law, economic objects become lawful military objectives when they make an effective contribution to military action either through their use or purpose and their destruction, capture, or neutralization offers a definite military advantage. Examples of Economic Objects Associated with Military Operations: Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricant (POL) Facilities: Oil refining and distribution facilities, storage sites, and production facilities are often cited as they fuel military transportation and machinery. Electrical Power Stations: Infrastructure supplying electricity is generally considered to be of sufficient importance to a State's capacity to maintain industrial production, transport, and communications for the war effort. Transportation Infrastructure: Bridges, roads, railway lines, ports, and airfields, although used by civilians, are considered dual-use objects when they are critical for moving enemy troops or supplies. Communications Infrastructure: Broadcast/radio facilities and television masts that support military communications or propaganda. Industrial Plants of Fundamental Importance: Factories producing steel, cement, or materials used specifically for building weapons (e.g., munitions factories). Revenue-Generating Assets: In some interpretations (particularly in US doctrine regarding "war-sustaining" objects), financial assets, banks, and enterprises that directly fund the enemy’s war efforts.

@allenanalysis If Denmark doesn't want to cooperate with the US, why should the US keep protecting them? Trump is a businessman. He wants a good deal for his country. No Greenland, no NATO. It's that simple.

Trump just explained why he turned on NATO: “It all began with Greenland. We want Greenland. They don’t want to give it to us. And I said bye bye.” The most powerful military alliance in human history. 75 years of collective defense. The foundation of postwar Western security. Ended because Denmark wouldn’t sell an island.

@HaroldWren22 That is spoken by someone with no clue about geopolitics. Firstly Europe is continent not a country so trying to understand it as a single unified entity will always result a gross misunderstanding. There is no plausible reason for them to invite the Chinese military there.

I was talking to my father this evening & i said the same thing. He countered with what i think is a better idea. He said, “no, we dont completely leave. We built those bases, our men bled in wars for them. You leave a skeleton maintenance crew at every single European base, but you keep them. You redeploy every one not part of the care taker group & every asset out of Europe, but you dont give those bases to those ungrateful traitors to use. You just take away all the jobs there for Europeans, all the Americans who contribute to those countries economies, you take away all the military people & weapons that keep them safe.” And you know what? It makes perfect sense. Because if you dont do that, China moves into those bases.
0HOUR1@0hour1

I think after Iran, we need to close all bases, right guys. They can handle it.

@blaze31300 @RBPundit You are missing a whole lot of context. Russia had been doing things like intentionally routing missiles to overfly NATO nations and also sending swarms of unarmed drones into them as well. That is absolutely something that warrants a military response.

It feels like NATO countries are mad that the US is taking action to stop a regime that is 1) an actual threat to NATO countries and 2) a military ally of Russia which NATO was literally created to defend against. It's almost like other NATO countries don't know what NATO is.

@GenocideReaper7 @BiankaB12 And here in the US many states have laws forcing children raped by family members to carry the child full term. Many of these states also have laws that force a women to carry the child even if it could cost her life.

I find it amusing at just how much hatred there is towards France, because when you think about it, they ought to be the allies MAGA pretends they want: 1) they have and fund their own military, including their own nuclear weapons and defence industry/ production. 2) they share intel with the U.S. 3) they don’t have American bases on their soil that are supposedly draining the American taxpayer. 4) they opposed the war in Iraq, which is something that JD Vance - they current sitting Vice President of the United States of America said that ALL Europeans should have done. So what’s the problem?
Olivier Schmitt@Olivier1Schmitt

The MAGA frustration with France on this platform is now reaching 2003 levels of vitriol. Which is of course the sign that France’s position is correct.

Look, I get it, Dems. You think buying Greenland is dumb. You think trash-talking NATO is dumb. You think Hegseth firing generals is dumb. You think bombing Iran is dumb. Fine. Maybe you’re right. Maybe you’re wrong. I’ll buy you a beer and we can argue about it. But that’s not the point. Every administration in American history has done dumb things. Jefferson had an embargo that tanked his own economy. LBJ had Vietnam. Carter sold the Panama Canal for $1. W. had “Mission Accomplished.” Obama had…. where do I even begin? Dumb is bipartisan. Dumb is American. Dumb is fine. DC runs on dumb decisions. What NONE of them ever did, what is truly, mind-melting, pants-on-head, clown-car-fire, galaxy-brained, lead-paint-chip-eating, 50-IQ-Neanderthal-ripping-a-bong dumb, was pay NGOs by the busload to smuggle tens of millions of people, including actual convicted criminals, across a border we spent trillions pretending to defend, then hand them free four-star hotels, free cell phones, free ATM cards, and a court date in 2031 they were never going to show up for. That is not a policy. That is a SNL cold open someone forgot to write a punchline for. A five-year-old with a juice box could tell you that was Bozo-the-Clown-on-crack, Weekend-at-Bernie’s-running-DHS, “hold-my-beer-I’m-gonna-try-something” levels of stupid. My golden retriever could have run a tighter border. A Magic 8-Ball would have outperformed the entire Biden interagency. That’s the new threshold, Democrats. That’s the low-water mark. That’s the floor. That is the Mariana Trench of public policy and you personally rented the Titan submersible. Argue all you want about the Strait of Hormuz. Write your op-eds. Go on cable TV with Tom Nichols. Clutch your pearls about Greenland. But until Trump proposes something even half as mind-bendingly, bone-crushingly, civilization-forfeitingly brain-dead as what Biden and Kamala did with our borders, I genuinely do not care. Zero F’s given by me.

@Schizointel I think the whole point of a lot of peoples opposition to this conflict is that Iran wont fall just by bombing them. Unless the US is willing to go in with boots on the ground the only thing that will happen is a humanitarian crisis in the short term and no regime change.

Good to see an American who understands some simple fundermentals about Europe. We are not one nation. I see this simple but important mistake being made a lot. But many European countries are very aware they need to start replying on their own or other neighbouring countries defence companies. And as you said, have already started doing that. Canada has joined in with Europe for the same reason. I know most Americans aren't like this of course.

Europe has 4 options: 1.) cut a deal with America 2.) cut a deal with Russia 3.) cut a deal with China 4.) reindustrialize and remilitarize I don't really care what you decide to do. I love Europe and want it to be strong. But you need to live in reality, know your options.
Vulchan@asc_kritias

@ThomBrady5 When the US president implies he will invade territory controlled by a European state this is *not* antagonization? But it is when some European states opt to say "we will sit this one out" to a Middle Eastern war that has nothing to do with them? Is your account satirical?

@Dunedain_Knight @AckTeacher @johnkonrad China has expressed interest in legally mining in Greenland and there is no reason to expect anything else. Greenland has in the past rejected offers due to pressure from the US and EU, but the current rift that Trump is driving will actually make a Chinese presence more likely.

What if America is already far richer than anyone in the swamp is allowed to admit? What if the real drag on the Republic isn’t taxes, isn’t debt, isn’t even the deficit, it’s Europe? What if NATO was never a mutual defense pact, but a 75-year subscription America forgot to cancel? What if “burden sharing” is the most expensive euphemism in the English language? What if the City of London cabal is draining our banks? What if the advice from globalists is terrible advice that’s costing us big? What if every European basing agreement, every forward-deployed brigade, every Ramstein runway, every Aviano hangar, every Souda Bay pier is a tax American workers pay so Berlin can run a welfare state and Paris can run a 35-hour week? What if foreign aid to Europe isn’t aid, it’s tribute, flowing the wrong way? What if transporting the vast majority of trade on European owned ships costs more than we realize? What if the NGO archipelago in Brussels, Geneva, and The Hague is just a money-laundering loop where US taxpayer dollars get rinsed through a “civil society” conference and returned as lectures about our democracy? What if the UN isn’t a parliament of man, it’s a Manhattan timeshare with diplomatic plates, an accounting black hole, and a Human Rights Council chaired by people who’d jail you for tweeting this? What if “the rules-based international order” was always code for: Americans build it, Americans pay for it, Americans bleed for it, and Europeans grade it? What if $36 trillion in debt looks a lot smaller the second you stop underwriting a continent that sneers at you in three languages? What if you zeroed out the Europe line, the NATO line, the UN line, the NGO line, and woke up tomorrow in a country with the fiscal headroom to rebuild every shipyard, every foundry, every rail line, and every Navy hull we’ve let rot since the Cold War ended? What if American tourists went to American cathedrals, American opera, American museums, American cities instead. I’m not saying I believe all of it. I’m saying maybe, just maybe, we could pay down all our debt and wouldn’t have to pay taxes at all if we cut Europe loose.
