@denise_dewald I teach in NYC. I don’t have a car. We don’t have outside space that’s not a busy sidewalk except the yard the kids will be in. There’s just no options.

This thread is the why. And what I needed on the eve of going back to the building. So lovely.

being from the DC area, I am always appalled when I find out I gotta pay to go to a museum.

@PresidentPat I let kids pick their seats for a few days and see how it goes; make learning as a priority a clear expectation. (But in these covid years, that’s not really an option bc we don’t have time or space for them to wander. Instead I’ll do temporary seating and then survey them.)

@literacybigkids @pearson Yeaahhhh. I tend to switch it to a literal definition of what was really happening when people used the word “civilize” lol. Or “Europeans thought… but ACTUALLY…” It’s terrible.

@__itsniaj Oh yeah that one is new and super basementy. I think the uptown one by the East River and 116thish people also like, but I was on the west side and the Yankee Stadium was easier to get to and less picked over.

It appears that Target sucks in NY but at least they are Texas prices. Y’all ain’t got nothing in there 😭

@__itsniaj (My personal favorite when I was in Manhattan was the Bronx one by Yankee Stadium. In Brooklyn my options are less good.)

I didn’t have to do attendance last year. Best thing about the whole year. This year… uh oh. 😭

This is one of the reasons I am bothered by the requirement to disclose.

A thing that is blowing my mind on this is that he is using a declaration of a *state of emergency* to have the power to tell people “there’s no emergency, it’s cool, personal freedom”.

Everyone I care about lives in Brooklyn and that train ride is just unacceptable.
