Early on in Caitlin Clark’s high school career, she made it known publicly that UCONN was her dream school.
Maya Moore was her childhood idol, and she had grown up watching the Maya Moore’s and Diana Taurasi’s of the world at UCONN. Her dream was to follow in their footsteps.
UCONN Head Coach, Geno Auriemma had other plans. His eyes were set on Paige Bueckers, who was also a Point Guard, and the #1 ranked player in the country.

For the 2020 high school graduating class, Paige was #1 in the country. Angel was #2. Cameron Brink was #3, and Caitlin was #4.
Paige, Angel, and Cameron all won state championships in high school.
Caitlin did not win any.
Geno viewed Paige as a far more well-rounded player, as opposed to just being a one-dimensional shooter, which in his mind was necessary to win championships.
Remember….Geno only cared about CHAMPIONSHIPS. He did not care about stats or volume scorers.
Geno set his eyes in Paige and Angel, with plans of pairing them together at UCONN. He heavily recruited the two of them.
In the end, Angel elected to stay near home, committing to Maryland. Caitlin went to Iowa, and Geno landed his prize recruit in Paige at UCONN.

Angel and Paige both ended up winning National Titles in college.
Caitlin did not win any.
When you see Geno speaking on Caitlin’s game, this is not some bitter old man who is upset over losing to Iowa in a recent NCAA Tournament game.
This is the greatest coach in Women’s Basketball HISTORY who has watched Caitlin Clark play basketball from the age of 15 to now! He knows what he is talking about!
