Tom Neal also spent six years in prison for shooting his estranged wife. She'd been shot in the back of the head. During the trial he claimed they were fighting over a gun that she was holding, and she was accidentally shot.
He was convicted in 1965 of involuntary manslaughter. He was paroled in 1971, and died in 1972 of a heart attack.

A interesting cast: Tom Neal, best known for Detour, beat up Franchot Tone in real life (Neal was a boxer for a few years). Rondo Hatton was a journalist before playing the Creeper in several films. Jane Adams was also in House of Dracula.
