@bmaze I guess the real question is whether Sam actually had a different prediction or if he's just telling us what we want to hear.

@tmhoward Sand Mountain Sam from Alabama begs to differ with the forecast. He said early spring. Maybe he did it out of self preservation.

This is Bean. His nose almost didn't fit in the pup cup, but he persevered. 12/10

After a brief return to near normal temperatures through tomorrow, we'll go back to unseasonably, dangerous cold through this weekend. This cold blast will be mostly dry but a few light showers or brief snow flurries can't be totally ruled out.

🥶Dangerously cold temperatures are expected to stick around Mississippi at least until Tuesday morning (1/27/26). If you have to be outside, please wear multiple layers and thoroughly cover your hands, feet, and head. Also watch out for these signs of hypothermia: • Uncontrollable shivering • Slurred speech or confusion • Drowsiness or extreme fatigue • Weak pulse or slow breathing • Loss of coordination If you or anyone you know needs somewhere warm and dry to stay, please visit our shelter page at msema.org/.../disaste...…. These shelters are controlled by the counties and are reported to MEMA.

There is a slight risk for severe storms in Mississippi throughout the day Friday (1/9/26) and into the early morning hours of Saturday (1/10/26). Severe storms, damaging wind gusts, and tornadoes are all possible. There is also an elevated risk of flash flooding for much of the state. Remember to stay weather aware and turn around, don't drown.

I have family in the deep south and central midwest, and if you asked me a year ago which group would be excited about a "mayonnaise bowl," I would've guessed wrong.
