@callmembj11 @IMAO_ When I was a kid in the '70s, "The Little Prince" played endlessly on a nascent cable movie channel in NorCal. It was probably the same for Michael down in Encino, and he likely had a video machine to record it. The plot would've been catnip for Michael, too. Do the math.

@IMAO_ That's interesting, but I'm not fully buying the direct influence angle. Fosse had that angular jazz style for years, sure, but MJ pulled from a ton of sources: street dance, Broadway, even mime. Looks more like parallel evolution in showmanship than one straight copy.

@RobertLeRoyPar6 @ScottMcCreaWest Valenti was irritated at me for challenging him. I can't remember who broached the subject of the ratings standards having, shall we say, drifted, but the climax of "Beneath" was my example of how much they had.

@ScottMcCreaWest @RobertLeRoyPar6 Valenti kept reiterating that the standards for the ratings hadn't changed. The discussion was about 25 years ago, probably inspired by a then-contemporary issue. As a big POTA fan (with the Heston toupees to prove it), I responded with what you mentioned in your OP. He no likey.

@ScottMcCreaWest @RobertLeRoyPar6 I brought this up to Jack Valenti, head of the MPAA, who basically invented the ratings system, and it really pissed him off. He was all Texas charm. He said, "The standards for the ratings haven't changed." Then I detailed the end of the "Beneath" ...

@RobertLeRoyPar6 Amazing, isn't it? Beneath the Planet of the Apes ends with James Franciscus getting shot in the heat, Heston taking a bullet in the chest, the earth blowing up ... and it was rated G.

@SPIN A decade or two back, I was interviewing Treat Williams. I told him how much I liked the "Hair" movie soundtrack. He said, yeah, it kind of pioneered the slap bass thing, like you hear on the "Seinfeld" theme. I said, no, that was a synth. Womp-womp-womp ...

The iconic Seinfeld bassline was created with mouth noises and played on a synth. 🤯 Yada, yada, yada, that’s how Jonathan Wolff did it! (📹 via @seinfeldmusicguy)

@d4doome I've come to like this one over the years. The Moore Bond I really don't like is "Moonraker." It's got some great Ken Adam sets, but it's too silly and, worst of all, boring.

@TeamNeither @TuckyVersionOne All with poster art by the great Robert McGinnis, who died last year at the age of 99. They just scream action, excitement and sex. I used them as inspiration for a the thumbnail for a video I did. (youtu.be/9tbKKj8_kLE)

Never understood why The Man with the Golden Gun is viewed so unfavourably. Has its flaws, but: -Banger of a title track -Brilliant villain -Memorable finale -The car stunt (minus the whistle) -Incredible locations -Bond and Scaramanga sparring -And of course, Roger

@IanD0001 @GenTXer2 I avoided this for years, probably because I found the single too generic and, yes, he’s not Ric Ocasek. But I gave it a chance recently and really like it.

Pauly Shore’s career appears to have fallen on hard times, he finds himself being harassed outside of a Bristol Farms market by another “influencer” trying to provoke a response for clicks, Shore went on to say “I have moved on from the business” and “I do Uber eats on the side” I understand but despise the metric when they try to provoke a celebrity looking for a big payday, but to harangue someone that is down on their luck… Come on man.

@iameringould @vashikoo TV shows were taking stylistic cues from some of the boundary-pushing moves of the era. For example, the visual aesthetic of "Mannix" in its first two seasons was much more daring than the routine procedural it became in the '70s.

This two-hour 1968 made-for-TV motion picture was the debut of a new TV series that ran for 12 years. Here's the wild intro scene and credit sequence for that famous show...🌊

For those who think Sean Connery is always great as 007, re-watch Diamonds Are Forever. It is a terrible sendoff to his tenure; bad editing, incomprehensible plot and Connery looking like your old Uncle Vern trying to be cool in Las Vegas. Un-Bondian; Charles Gray steals it.

@ScottMcCreaWest It looks cheap and Connery does look a little too authentically Vegas 1972, but it's fun, with memorable action scenes (e.g. the elevator fight) and wickedly humorous touches.

Currently asking AI how to handle going viral for using AI. 😅 In all seriousness, I'm late to the AI party. Earlier this season I experimented with AI to see if it had any questions to add to my list for my postgame coverage. We've come a long way from pen and paper when I started in 1997 Always learning.

With all the talk about how terrible No Time to Die is, it's worth remembering that one of the worst Bond films predates Craig: The Man With the Golden Gun. Terrible script, Moore off-key, Christopher Lee sleepwalks (as usual) & it looks cheap and tacky. Almost killed the series.

@IkeHax20 @AngieMentink Do you use Google? She'd be stupid *not* to use AI in interview prep. One doesn't have to use what it gives you. It could spark an interesting question only tangentially related to the AI response.

@AngieMentink This is not a laughing matter. Kids have been expelled from school for less, people have lost high paying jobs doing similar I can’t believe you think this is a joke. U should be ashamed of urself for what u did and should offer a formal apology
