According to former ECB president Mario Draghi, European competitiveness must be improved through wide-ranging economic reforms and significant investment, partially financed by common debt. (politico.eu/article/mario-…) One area where Europe seems to have taken the lead is (AI) regulation through the abominable AI Act. Thierry Breton, who recently resigned, claimed this legislation would allow European citizens and businesses to use AI "made in Europe" safely and confidently. However, this regulatory framework has already created disparities. For instance, while Apple launched its AI-driven product "Apple Intelligence" in the US, it faces significant restrictions within the EU. Meanwhile, as Elon Musk pioneers space travel, the EU has focused on interventionist consumer-focused regulations, such as requiring bottle caps to be attached to plastic bottles and mandating USB-C cables for smartphones. ECB adviser Jürgen Schaaf has warned of "Bitcoin’s potential societal risks", suggesting that its bubble could lead to redistribution effects, benefiting early adopters at the expense of latecomers. (x.com/schaaf_jurgen/…) Additionally, Italy's recent proposal to raise capital gains tax on Bitcoin from 26% to 42% seem to indicate a broader, dismissive stance. Do these EU apparatchiks truly believe that increasing regulation, central planning, and higher taxes will foster European innovation and competitiveness? If president Donald Trump is re-elected, the U.S. is likely to surge ahead in terms of global competitiveness. While many Europeans often criticise and dismiss American policies and culture, they may soon find themselves reflecting on why Europe is falling behind. It's quite sad really!

Another excellent piece of journalism by @hodlonaut. My gut tells me that this is a classical example of "the road to hell is paved with good intentions." I believe Newberry set out with the best of intentions to create Brink. And then human fallibility kicked in and we saw all the classic patterns of abuse of trust and power leading to erosion of meritocracy, objectivity, and integrity. Those who don't acknowledge what this article exposes further reveal how hard the truth can be to admit. Those who acknowledge it but deny its importance misunderstand how crucial integrity, merit, and openness are to Bitcoin over the long term.

This is the philosophical bankruptcy of a brilliant engineer laid bare in a single post. Musk proposes that the government pay people not to work because machines will do the working for them. This is not a new idea. It is the old idea of something for nothing, repackaged in silicon. Start with the economics. Mises demonstrated that production must precede consumption. You cannot distribute wealth that has not been created by someone. If AI produces the goods, someone still owns the AI, maintains it, directs it, and decides what it produces. That is not a post-work society. That is a society in which the producers have changed tools. The question Musk refuses to ask is: by what right does the government seize the output of those producers to mail checks to those who did not produce it? "There will not be inflation" because production will exceed the money supply increase. This assumes the government will print only enough and never more. This is the assumption of every inflationist in history. Hayek called this the pretense of knowledge. Mises demonstrated that no central authority can calculate economic outcomes for a dynamic economy because it lacks the pricing information that only free markets generate. This is not a technical problem to be solved. It is an impossibility built into the nature of centralized control. Now the moral question Musk avoids entirely. Man survives by using his mind. Work is not a burden to be eliminated. It is the means by which a rational being sustains his life, creates value, and achieves purpose. A man who receives a check for existing is not free. He is a dependent. He has been severed from the process that gives his life meaning. Rand would say Musk is proposing to turn every American into a ward of the state, fed and housed by the productive, with no purpose and no self-respect. Mike Lee asks the right question: why would you trust the government to do this? But the deeper question is: why would you want any institution, government or otherwise, to replace the individual's responsibility for his own survival? That is not compassion. That is the destruction of the human spirit performed with a direct deposit. Musk builds rockets because he refused to accept that space was closed to private enterprise. He should apply that same principle to the economy: trust free individuals to adapt, innovate, and create new forms of value, as they have after every technological revolution in history. The printing press did not create permanent unemployment. Neither did the steam engine, electricity, the automobile, or the internet. Each one destroyed old jobs and created new ones that no one could have predicted. AI will do the same, if the government stays out of the way. Universal High Income is not the future. It is the end of the future, paid for monthly.
Elon Musk@elonmusk

Universal HIGH INCOME via checks issued by the Federal government is the best way to deal with unemployment caused by AI. AI/robotics will produce goods & services far in excess of the increase in the money supply, so there will not be inflation.

🚨BREAKING: Hungary's new PM has REJECTED the EU's migration pact: "We will still not join the pact. We will actually reinforce the border further to protect Hungary and broader Europe. We will find a way to stop the EU's daily fine." The globalists thought they'd won. 🇭🇺

Bitcoin relies on a scheme that generates a public key from a private key. If the scheme can be reversed it means every Bitcoin wallet is no longer a safe store of value. According to Google this in within the realm of possibility with quantum computing. Bitcoin is essentially a Ponzi scheme, nobody makes money unless someone else loses money - a zero sum game. When the last wallet cashes out or gets cracked, Bitcoin will be worth exactly what it was worth in the beginning - nothing.
Jacob King@JacobKinge

Google Quantum AI released a white paper today warning that cracking 256-bit ECC, which is widely used in Bitcoin wallets, requires MUCH fewer resources than originally expected. With under 500,000 physical qubits, any private key could theoretically be cracked in under 9 minutes. Wow. This is one of the many reasons why whales and insiders have been quietly offloading Bitcoin in droves. Bitcoin’s days may be numbered. In a short time, quantum computing can and will completely abolish the space.

Meanwhile, UEFA didn’t issue any fines for these two tifos, arguing they weren’t offensive nor political: In 2024, Omonia Nicosia fans displayed a “Red Army Liberated Warsaw” banner in their Conference League match vs Legia Warsaw. PSG ultras showed a giant “Free Palestine” tifo in the Champions League vs Atlético Madrid, featuring a keffiyeh terrorist, the Dome of the Rock, blood-stained Palestinian and Lebanese flags and a Palestine map (the letter “I”) negating Israeli statehood. BREAKING: UEFA fines French football club Lille €17500 for “transmitting a message not fit for a sports event.” The large tifo in the game against England’s Aston Villa depicting Joan of Arc with a sword in hand, and the words “French never die” was considered to “incite hatred.” The decision came shortly after UEFA drew anger by fining Red Star Belgrade €40,000 for a Christian tifo in their match against Lille. Critics say the decisions show that UEFA are anti-Christian as they allow tifos depicting the devil or push political messages connected to LGBTQ and BLM without ever fining clubs for such tifos.

🇪🇺🇳🇱 DUTCH COURT OF AUDITS FINDS "NO UNDERSTANDING" OF EFFECTIVENESS FOR AML APPROACH The Dutch Court of Audits has published a paper on Anti-Money Laundering (AML) in banking, finding that "there is no understanding of the effectiveness of the anti-money laundering approach." The paper states that "it is not clear whether the increasing controls by banks actually contribute to the prevention and detection of money laundering," while highlighting the significant costs imposed on banks. According to the court, AML measures are discriminatory particularly towards people with foreign surnames, stating that the lack of proven effectiveness of the measures "does not establish that this distinction is justified." The court plans to put its research into EU perspective later this year.
